    Fishing on the beach

O.k., this is my 1st time posting on a forum, so be gentle. We'll be in the area in July (30-A) and want to know what kind of fishing is it that people do while standing on the shore? (As seen on the fabulous pix on this SoWal gallery) Where do you get the fishing gear, etc? We think it might be fun to do, instead of fishing off a boat. Any info or a link is appreciated!

Welcome to the board. It's easy!

Most of the fishing is for whatever will bite - pompano, reds, trout, whiting, blues, etc.

You can rent gear at Yellowfin Ocean Sports in Grayton and they'll give you lots of help. It's fun if the water's not too rough.

Check these links for some fishing info:

I like to get a medium weight rod with a spoon or jig on it and walk up and down the beach, wading in and out, sightcasting. Often times you can see the fish in the surf and cast on their heads.

Thanks for the links Kurt. Can't wait to wet a line from shore when we get there in May.
