MIRAMAR BEACH - A man found dead on the beach near Surfside condominiums Monday evening has been identified as local resident Lewis Hassell.
Preliminary autopsy results show that Hassell, 42, died from accidental drowning, said Walton County Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Bryan Maule.
The Sheriff's Office has not released other details of Hassell's death.
"We're still investigating," Maule said.
An unidentified caller reported finding Hassell's body on the beach along Scenic Gulf Drive at about 8:09 p.m. Monday not far from his home on Miami Street, Maule said.
Hassell was last seen alive at 6:20 p.m. that day, said Jeff Martin with the medical examiner's office in Fort Walton Beach.
The medical examiner will have a toxicology report in the next several weeks, Maule said.
While it appears that no foul play was involved, an official cause of death has not been determined because the final autopsy report is not complete, Martin said.
"It's pending," he said.~~~~~~~~_/)~~~~~~~~

Re: Drowning
Sad. Mirimar Beach has experienced several other drownings and a shark attack in the last couple of years. I'm guessing it's just coincidence, probably more visitors than some of the other beaches, but it seems that particular beach pops up in the news more often than the rest.
