Seaside beaches posted "private" and "security enforced"

I don't know what prompted the powder blue signs that have sprouted at almost every Seaside beach walkover, but they are staking their claim to the beach! Has there been a recent problem w/ non-residents/guests using their accesses?

    PRIVATE
    NO PUBLIC ACCESS

    Pavilion Use and Beach Access
    Strictly limted to Seaside Homeowners
    and their Guests

    SECURITY ENFORCED

It looks like they are saying the access is private, not the beach and this is true. Each street is responsible for maintaining their own walkover and pavilion, and they are private. Just go to the Obi pavilion walkover behind Cafe Spiazza and you shouldn't have any problem. Let us know if anyone says anything to you "on the beach."

It's always said that, though the "strictly enforced" is a new part.

I've always known that they're private and owned by each neighborhood/street, the new large signs were a surprise.

There is a public boardwalk on the west end border of Seaside. Not the most noticeable, but it's there.

On a side note - the pavilions and beaches below at Seaside can be rented separately or together for weddings and events. The cost is not as high as I have seen posted here before. The most expensive is $1,500. The planners at Seaside will also help arrange (along with soup to nuts) for you to get married at the adjacent public walkover which only requires an inexpensive permit from the county for groups over 50 people.

Re: Seaside beaches posted "private" and "security enforced"

I first noticed the signs after Hurricane Ivan, in 2004. There were very few accesses to the beach, and the foot path next to the Seaside Pavilion was one of very few along the entire stretch of 30A. The sign could have been there all along, but I never noticed it prior to that, when many people began to go to Seaside for beach access.

I've seen tiny signs saying "private" before. My post was prompted by the appearance at every pavilion of new blue signs several feet high/wide and hard to miss.

I've got my own (public) beach access, so me getting to the beach isn't the issue, I just wondered what prompted these signs.

Sad very sad. I have never noticed the signs before. We enjoy going to the beach at seaside because of the mix of visitors and locals. We've had great conversations with locals at the beach while our kids played together. I would hate to see this end.

Re: Seaside beaches posted "private" and "security enforced"

From my understanding, there have been many cases where specific rental houses right on the border with Seaside have been filled for weddings etc. and just assume they have access to Seaside amenities. A couple of houses on the eastern boarder even tell their guests they are a part of Seaside when they are not. There is public access to the beach very close by I understand that they should be using.

This is on top of the cars that just pull up and just unload in front of pavilions. (If I were going to pick a spot I would go somewhere a bit less crowded anyway)

I am not saying that Seaside should be exclusive in any way, just that if owners in Seaside have to pay to maintain the pavilions, they have the right to protect them.
If you are lucky enough to be at the beach......

That would explain the new signs. I often laugh at the "Seaside" vacation rental listings ............... for homes located near Alys Beach.

Maybe the new signs were replacing the older signs. I noticed the one at the dining pavilion in Seaside, was broken when I looked a week or two ago.
