Life suggestions?
I think I might relocate to the area and I was wondering- where are some good places for a young single professional woman to meet some quality, employed men around here?
Just wondering ;) Thanks!

Re: Life suggestions?
Bud & Alley's Tarpon Club, but their employment will probably be in Birminglanta

Re: Life suggestions?
Oh, if only I knew the answer to that question! One of the few drawbacks I've found to this area is the lack of "quality employed" bachelors (you'll learn to check marital status) compared to college days or a city.
-Old Florida Fish House
-Bud & Alley's
-Harbor Docks on Thursday nights
-Aj's (lots of military guys)

Re: Life suggestions?
I'm moving down from Atlanta. I swear all men I have met here (ATL) are in their late 20's/early 30's but are still "swinging bachelors" acting as if they're all 21 w/o a care in the world and chasing girls that are 18. Ugh.
I'll be down next week for interviews and possible house hunting. Anyone know of the best looking, cheapest, closest to beach, long-term rental is? Ha. I know... asking for the impossible...

Re: Life suggestions?
Check the "rental" thread on Sowal and ask/look around. I've found my various abodes through ads in the Walton Sun, "roommate wanted" or "for rent" notes in the Seaside or Rosemary post offices, and word of mouth. Ask the people you're interviewing with as well.

Re: Life suggestions?
My suggestion, quit looking. Men seem to be more interested when they are not persued. Make something worthwhile of yourself instead.

Men are like parking spaces. The good ones are taken, and the rest are either handicapped or so far out there that you don't want them.

Re: Life suggestions?
Good Gravy! I was just answering her question, not advocating a lifestyle of desperately chasing men through the bars of the area.
I agree that looking for something is usually the best way of ensuring you don't find it, but getting out of the house and socializing does help a bit too

NoHall, you rock! Great variation on married or gay!

Re: Life suggestions?
If you're a physically active sort, the local 5K and 10K running races tend to skew somewhat male, and reasonably professional/technical.
You can pull up a partial list of local races at active.com, and another list on the NW Florida Track Club web site.

Re: Life suggestions?
Oh my gosh. You guys are too funny!
I am actually not actively seeking anyone... just thought some good conversation was due for my lady friend and I when we visit next week to scout things out. I never actively "hunt" men- no need! Ha! BUT thank you all for taking a simple question as a desperate plea- it made my day

Re: Life suggestions?
Still can't help but laugh at the "quality, employed men around here?"!!!

Re: Life suggestions?
Bluefox, as you can see, what we lack in eligible bachelors, we more than make up for in characters and funn!
No basements here due to the water level!

Re: Life suggestions?
I thought Smiley J was the most eligible bachelor here!? Nobody has mentioned him.

Re: Life suggestions?
Ha- well, I am not really too concerned. I am needing the boost in quality of life more than I need a man. After being a major city girl for most of my years, I think it's time for a slower pace of life. I work at a very hectic job- and even driving only 2 exits on 285 makes me want to shoot people. I miss being a nicer person. I have also lost all creative ambition. I guess I am just looking for a better quality of life and I think you guys have it! I want it!

Re: Life suggestions?
Yeah-
•I have been to the museums here more times than I can count (was a member at High for years)
•I hate clubbing (give me a Irish Pub or something similar and I am good- I am going to try Red Bar this time- it looks like my type of place) Got whisky? ha!
•I live at Target (although I will miss having multiple/Super Targets...
I know, I know!)
•Had more than my fare share of ineligible bachelors-- I figure it's time to pass the torch on that one...
So, I think I should be OK.

Re: Life suggestions?
Reality is that most of the good men are taken. From the looks of it, a lot of the professional people that move down here have married somewhere else, or divorced with some kind of issue. I think you'll be in for a culture shock considering the quality young available men that are available, are not necessarily professionals. I've known countless individuals that move here not realizing just what they are getting into, yet somehow adjusting to the degree that when they go back to where ever they came from, they are not satisfied. This "was" a small town, with few amenities. Pace is slow, locals operate on the honor system.

Re: Life suggestions?
I am amazed at how many of you look at men in such a horrible fashion! While I obviously haven't found the one- I haven't given up hope- not that I am in any rush. Many of you sound VERY pessimistic- hold your heads up ladies! Lighten up! This might be a reason they...

Sheesh!
I seriously didn't mean for a question about a hang-out spot turn into a male bashing forum! I LOVE MEN! Ha!

Re: Life suggestions?
One bit of advice: You better make good pay or have a roommate or two. Otherwise, you won't be able to afford to live comfortably in South Walton or Destin.
Or, you can expect a 30-minute or longer commute for work. That's what I got stuck with.
Nobody warned me when I took a job here about housing costs! Woooo.
Still would have come anyway. It's worth it.
Oh, and, there's lots of cute Air Force guys around. hehehe.Last edited by ladyj; 06-20-2007 at 01:45 PM. Reason: I felt like it, Okay??

Re: Life suggestions?
I was asking for the age range of the women who are looking and finding nothing. Not you married or taken ladies.
My mother is also single- and I was trying to convince her to move to the area as well...

Re: Life suggestions?
I will make decent money or I am not moving. That's the whole dilemma- which is why I have set-up interviews for next week.
I have also been looking at places to rent- they really aren't that bad. Same as the city- but with much nicer views. I understand it would be hard to live in the area if you had a hourly job- but alas- I do not. I am trying to convince another friend into moving with me though... I could always use the extra $ in my pocket.

Re: Life suggestions?
If you come here, thinking to find "love", you'll be disappointed, as you will anywhere. Hope there is some other stronger motivation.
