My boat got stolen on Sunday...

Don't laugh too hard...but two guys and a boy waded up out of the bay and STOLE OUR BOAT OUT OF OUR YARD on Sunday. Wesley was home, saw them and thought wth to himself, but didn't confront them as he was alone. It's just a 8 to 10 foot old aluminum green jonboat, no motor, was registered 25 years ago but not renewed as the motor was sold after my dad died, slightly warped and a small hole in the bottom. Still, it was nice to piddle around on, and it belonged to my dad . I can't believe anyone might have thought it was abandoned; it was IN FRONT OF OUR HOUSE.

Fuzz discovered the boat was missing yesterday (Wesley had forgotten to advise us ) and, after learning of the bay people absconding with it, walked the shoreline from our house to Cabbage Rose Lane late yesterday afternoon. No sign of it. He would search again today, but he is back at work today and since he is now off patrol and back in CID, he can't drive around and look for his boat.

If anyone goes kayaking or messing around in the bay from 331 or Bay Drive east, and sees a boat that looks like that pulled up somewhere, please PM me? or call my cell, 850-585-6471?

Meanwhile, make sure all of your stuff is locked up or tied down...and tell your teenagers that people coming up and leaving with your stuff warrants a phone call .
    Go Seminoles...fight team fight...SCALP'EM!!

Sorry to hear about that, someone stole my dad's boat out of our yard too, when my mother was in the hospital dying of cancer. An old friend of the family gave me a small 12' Jon boat (you'd know the gentleman if I told you), it wasn't near what my dad's was though. 20 years later, I managed to find one similar to his and bought it, have a blast with it. The other boat got damaged on the conrete rip rap, not too bad, I used it to get out after Hurricane Ivan, if you would like it you can have it.

It takes more than nails and chains to stop theives. We had a canoe chained to a tree at a local lake, and the thick chain was cut and left by the tree, but the boat was nowhere in sight.

that's true sj, but i have some really thick chain, and i hope by the time they would get cut thru it, the nosy old guy across the street will have the police on the way.

A friend of my wife has a home on Lake Virginia near Rollins College. After hearing some noise one morning, the friend looked out in the backyard to see someone making off with their bar-b-que grill by means of boat. It was an amphibious ripoff.

battery powered metal saw will be through that thick chain in less than 30 seconds, and they can be fairly quite, but a pair of bolt cutters can do the job under ten seconds and are even more quiet.

BTW audie, you must see me before you leave!

We are hunting for a picture. Of course, we usually left the camera inside when the boat was involved due to its propensity to take on water.

Plat book 2, p1, and that road and access is dedicated in perpetuity to the public. The boat was stolen from Magnolia Beach s/d. It was stolen from The Shallows.

Yeah...and look for pottery, and generally just enjoy the day. Basically just walking around in the bay. From where they come, we don't know...

And we normally don't mind folks walking around out there, aside for the fact that we have no window treatments , until a group of them left with our boat.

    I'm still amazed...

I'm just trying to figure out where all these people are coming from. They always come from the west. We had been thinking that they were staying at the Powers' house on West Shallows, but neighbor closest to that house states nobody has been there in ages. That leaves Ivy Lane, The Woods, and then the access at Magnolia Beach S/D...which is a pretty good jaunt, especially if you are walking in the water!

Maybe they made it over here, got tired, and took the boat home. Yeah, that's it.

Re: My boat got stolen on Sunday...

    UPDATE!!!

As evidenced in my 'tar, the boat was returned about 6:30 this morning.

Fuzz had put the sign out on our seawall poles on Tuesday morning. Yesterday morning, he noticed that several of the groups of bay people that frequent our water got closer to take a look at it.

This morning, he saw a boat that we have seen before. Muttered "d@mn, that almost looks like a boat in that boat!" but had to leave to take Wesley to catch the school bus. I was busy primping and packing (I have to catch a flight later this morning).

Fuzz comes home and notices the bigger boat hauling @ss away. He walks down and lo and behold...

The registration numbers have been removed, and it appears that whoever had it tried to paint it (or maybe seal it? ) But it is definitely our boat.

Now he has to put out a sign that says "Thanks!"

I disagree. They are 100% losers because they are not even good thieves. If you are going to steal something, you should bring it back. I did get a pair of tennis shoes stolen from on top of my locker one time, and I did enough probing around that I found out who did it and threatend to kick his @$$ if they were not returned to my locker by the days end. They were returned.

Maybe in this case of the returned boat, they are SoWallers, and read my suggestion of Wesley busting a cap in their @$$3s, got scared and decided to return it. Either that, or their daddy caught them with a boat which wasn't theirs and threatened to beat their butts if they didn't return it. I guess there could be one other possiblity that they thought they were stealing a solid boat, and after discovering the hole in it, decided it they would let ShallowsNole keep it.

We had a sailboat that was taken from the Cabbage Rose Lane bay access. It was chained to a tree on a Quiet Water Trail family lot. Wish whoever took it would call so that I could give them the tiller, sail, centerboard, etc.

Did they cut the chain or the tree? Was it recently? What color and length is the boat? Brand name ?

Sorry to hear that! Unfortunately, there seems to be a lot of boat borrowing going on - and a LOT of people using that bay access.
