endless summer
went for a walk today and actually read the sign on 30A near seaside for the kahuna development "endless summer" by doodle harris. question: will it really be a "private beach" as stated? does that mean no walks from seagrove to seaside via the beach? thought all beach was public - ?? yikes - thanks for info.

Re: endless summer
I noticed that, too, when we were walking. From the illustration on the billboard, it appears that the beach in front of the proposed development is a "no fly zone" if you would. Short of installing a fence on either side to keep non-owners out, how could it be private?

Re: endless summer
Isn't it considered public up to the high tide mark?

Re: endless summer
there are some beachfront owners on this board. maybe they'll help with an explaination on mean high water line.

Re: endless summer
The beach is always changing and mean high water is hard to pinpoint over time. But in other places where beach rights become issues, you can generally gingerly walk on private beaches, just don't loiter, swim, surf, build sandcastles, fish, sunbathe, coverse, imbibe, or implode.

Re: endless summer
I saw the same sign too. I am goingto make sure when we are down that we make an extra effort to walk back and forth from the Thyms St. walkover to Seaside as many times as possible. Maybe we will even loiter a abit in this "private beach zone" and see what happens.

Re: endless summer
I wasn't going to say so, but since you said it first, that was my reaction, too, when I saw that billboard. It's pretty obnoxious. I will give them a little benefit of the doubt, however. I've noticed that architectural artists tend to take liberties (look at the artist's rendering of Hotel Viridian, which portrays 30-A as being nearly the same size as 98, to see what I mean).
The Endless Summer illustration gives the impression from the way they've dark highlighted the beach as "private" that it's completely off-limits, but surely that's not the intention. But if it IS the intention, I will disregard it, because like Just In Thyme, I'm always beach walking from Seagrove to Seaside and I have no intention of changing my habits.
I sure hope Doodle Harris has a competent landscape architect on hand for re-beautifying all those lots he clear-cut. That almost worries me more than the No Pass Zone on the water.

Re: endless summer
Is it true that Doodle Harris goes to jail rather than pay his taxes?
Can someone explain if there is any basis for this rumor?
Also, there are quite a few beach front owners on 30A that claim ownership of the beach and a sheriff deputy told me they are authorized to to enforce these private property rights. We have friends that have been told to pick up their beach chairs and move.

Re: endless summer
I looked at that sign as well. I didn't see any scale provided, and he didn't have the nutz to draw the private property line all the way to the water's edge. How can I go about getting the name 'Doodle"?

Re: endless summer
thanks for the info, everyone. looks like i have likely been walking on forbidden beaches for years - i always assumed that property rights ended at the base of the dunes. silly me. however, being an old retired schoolmarm, i am unlikely to change my habits!
agree on doodle's name, for cryin' out loud. i am afraid to ask what it is short for. !!

Re: endless summer
Note that the lot furthest from Seaside does not have the private beach. There are about 4 lots that are right at the boundary of Seaside/Seagrove that have private beach. On the Seaside side the beach is owned by the Seaside HOA. On the Seagrove side the beach is public. Thanks goodness!! Here's a great example of how some lots along the beach have private beach and some have public.
