Sotheby’s Auction on the Emerald Coast
Since the founding of the Sotheby's auction house in 1744, the Sotheby's name has earned renown as a marketer for many of the world's most valuable and prestigious possessions. The Sotheby's International Realty® organization began in 1976, in part to serve clients desiring a complete package of estate disposition services, and soon became known for representing extraordinary luxury real estate throughout the world.
On April 5, 2008 Sea Sotheby’s International Realty will hold their first real estate auction on the Emerald Coast. The last Sotheby’s real estate auction was in Sarasota, Florida- a market highly saturated with seller inventory. While a competing auction sold nothing the day before, the Sotheby’s auction procured over $70 million in sales.
With the success of the Sarasota auction top of mind, many Emerald Coast homeowners came to a seller orientation hopeful to participate in the Destin auction. A portfolio comprised of roughly 40 homes have been selected for the event being held at Henderson State Park, a number that represented about 10% of the hopeful prospects. “It was a tough selection process. We were looking for homes owned by people with a true understanding of fair market value. Their priority is to sell their home with this auction being their accerlated marketing plan. These homes are being sold on April 5th to the highest bidder,” said Chuck Cary, owner of Sea Sotheby’s International Realty. Some homes will have a reserve, while other homes are being sold ‘Absolute’.
Making the roster are homes as far East as Port St. Joe, and as far West as Fort Walton Beach. Prestigious communities such as Rosemary Beach and Regatta Bay are represented, as well as waterfront properties in quiet corners of the Emerald Coast.
Many auctions have taken place over the last year, and each has had their own degree of success and disappointment. The major differentiator of a Sotheby’s auction is the extensive international marketing attracting buyers from all over the world. “This auction has been marketed internationally throughout airline publications, most luxury real estate publications, and even publications specifically created for professional athletes. The Sotheby’s brand commands attention throughout the world,” said Jessica Fletcher, Vice President of Operations for Sea Sotheby’s International Realty. That attention has been piggy-backed by non-auction listings as well. Sea Sotheby’s International Realty has increased their selling and listing market share since launching the campaign for the April 5th auction, and expects to a positive residual effect after the auction.
Buyers interested in coming to the auction are being registered now, and will have the opportunity to virtually tour homes, walk-thru them in person on March 22nd, 30th, and April 4th or make a convenient appointment.
