Octuplets mom had 6 already!!
Evidently the mother of the octuplets born this week already had six children when she took fertility drugs to have more.
Quote:

WHITTIER, Calif. – The woman who gave birth to octuplets this week has six other children and never expected to have eight more when she took fertility treatment, her mother said.

She's breastfeeding the babies too!
How do you breastfeed 8 children and do anything else? Isn't it every 2 hours for one child. I can't see it. She must have some breasts on stand-by.

She lives with her parents too. I think she saw "Jon and Kate plus 8" and is planning on starring in "Doreen plus 14".

Doreen plus 14 -- LOL!
If she's living with her mother, does that mean she has no husband? I assume she can't afford her own house, so how does she afford infertility treatments? That costs many thousands of dollars per month and I don't know of any insurance companies who cover it. Neither of ours did.

I saw that her husband is a "contractor" in Iraq. Probably big bucks, and she's living with her mom while he's gone, so that she can get help with the kids.

Thanks. That explains why she's living with her mom (and dad, apparently, because he was on CNN today). But knowingly having 7 (then 8) babies when she already has 6? Please explain that, someone.

Well, if you don't have fertility issues...and clearly this woman does not....then a dose of Clomid is probably good enough to result in eight babies.
What I wonder is why a doctor would give a woman with six kids fertility treatments at all. I mean, think about the cost to this woman is running up to indulge her baby-hoarding addiction. It's just irresponsible on so many levels. How can anyone parent fourteen children -- ten of them multiples -- effectively? They can't.

The story I think I heard is that the grandpa is the contractor in Iraq. No mention of husband.

Are we missing something here? What exactly is the definition of "infertility?" I've seen cats who were less fertile than that.

My definition of infertility certainly does not include someone who has had 6 kids.
I think large loving families are great - litters that keep you from giving them the love and attention they need, not so much!

They ran a story on Today this morning. Looks like the diapers are going to hit the fan. They said that the bill for these babies could cost the taxpayers (?) more than 3 million dollars.
Sounds like they don't know if she was on fertility drugs or if she had a highly unethical invitro procedure.

The one news story I heard said that the girl (30 years old) was single, living with her parents. All I can say is that those first six kids must be angels for her to want to have a seventh. Hell, if she stays single, a 15-passenger van will just barely fit her entire family. So what is her typical day? wake up, change diaper, change diaper, change diaper, change diaper, change diaper, change diaper, change diaper, change diaper, change diaper, change diaper, change diaper, change diaper, change diaper, change diaper, feed baby, feed baby, feed baby, feed baby, feed baby, feed baby, feed baby, feed baby, feed baby, feed baby, feed baby, feed baby, feed baby, feed baby, burp baby, burp baby, burp baby, burp baby, burp baby, burp baby, burp baby, burp baby, burp baby, burp baby, burp baby, burp baby, burp baby, burp baby, rock baby to sleep, rock baby to sleep, rock baby to sleep, rock baby to sleep, rock baby to sleep, rock baby to sleep, rock baby to sleep, rock baby to sleep, rock baby to sleep, rock baby to sleep, rock baby to sleep, rock baby to sleep, rock baby to sleep, rock baby to sleep, change diaper, etc, repeat 4 times, then go to bed.

Well, no wonder she had a fertility procedure to get pregnant. That was probably her routine with the first six- when would she have had sex?

Being a single mom of 14 babies, I bet she will have no problem finding a date, or that perfect husband. lol! OMC!

Right, you probably wouldn't have time for that with 6 kids. Of course, when you're on infertility treatments, you don't have sex to get pregnant. You either have AI, or either everything is already in the lab and ready for implantation. You spend a lot of time at the doctor's office.

Wow -- this is really getting horrifying!
Grandma: Octuplets mom obsessed with having kids - Yahoo! News
Quote:
LOS ANGELES – The woman who gave birth to octuplets this week conceived all 14 of her children through in vitro fertilization, is not married and has been obsessed with having children since she was a teenager, her mother said.
Angela Suleman told The Associated Press she was not supportive when her daughter, Nadya Suleman, decided to have more embryos implanted last year.
"It can't go on any longer," she said in a phone interview Friday. "She's got six children and no husband. I was brought up the traditional way. I firmly believe in marriage. But she didn't want to get married."
|
I'm starting to think there should be criminal charges for the doctor(s), and psychiatric evaluation for the "mother." And that the octuplets should be taken away and split up two by two, adopted by parents who can properly care for them.

I have a colleague whom I believe is obsessed with saving children. She and her husband adopted three children from the old Soviet Union. Then they adopted four more. We all wonder if she'll adopt even more. The family obviously needs a huge vehicle (equals gas guzzler) to go anywhere together. I admire her for her humanitarianism, but she can't save them all. I think the three children would have had a better quality of life than seven. I guess that's an awful thing for me to say, but that's what many of us think. Sorry.

I agree. This is getting more bizarre by the minute.
What kind of life do these poor kids look forward to? I think the lady with 18 single-birth kids is nuts, but all of those kids are well-cared for, play instruments (yikes--they're bigger than my band!) and they take care of each other. We know another family that has 12 (single birth) and all the kids are on the buddy system--each of the older 6 has to help a younger sibling get ready for school/church and do chores. You can't do that with 8 infants.
And what about the risk she took? Not only the high risk of injuring or disabling one of the infants because there were too darned many in there, but if she had ruptured she would have orphaned six children.
Six children. Dang. My mother was given up for adoption in 1942 because she was born into a family with 6 older children. (She was actually the 8th; she has a sister who was born and given up 15 months before.) The mother knew she couldn't care for more children. (The father was a selfish batturd who didn't believe in preventing unwanted pregnancy.) Mom grew up knowing that she was given by a mother who loved her enough to let her go to a family who loved her and who could care for her.
This "mother" is selfish, and I have no respect for her. I have a set of friends who just found out they can't have kids...there's a great home for some of them right down the street from me!

I've known several families with 6 or more who do just fine, but they're at least 15 months apart all the way down the line. 14 that are this close together in age (and 8 infants at one time with other toddlers in the house) is ridiculous.

The oldest child is 7. He or she has a lot to bear for seven years old.
I'm from a family of 6 but there are 18 years between the oldest and youngest.
I can barely keep up with 2 much less 14....oh, when those 8 start walking!

She will have plenty of $$ help- book deals, magazines bidding on the pics/stories, churches will give her a bus and house and members will be volunteer nannies and write checks, good samaritans, a TV show a la Jon & Kate plus 8....financially this is a moneymaker, and that's what disgusts me.

Let me get this straight - I pay hundreds of dollars a month for health insurance that won't cover anything, but this lady is somehow getting $$ fertility treatments on the taxpayer's dime for 14 pucking kids!!!!

Not just $$ for the treatments (that she didn't need) but also around 3.2 million dollars for the hospital bill for these kids she won't be able to care for.

Any medical personnel who signed off on these treatments or gave her fertility treatments better get out their GD checkbook.
And baby momma better start selling her plasma and anything else.
I'm NOT paying for ANY of this! I am drawing the line!!!!

This remimds me of those stories of the animal police who have to come in and rescue 50 plus malnourished cats in a house with feces every where, and no food to be found.
I guess we have now moved onto human beings. Hope she has to give them up for adoption.

I'm starting to think there should be criminal charges for the doctor(s), and psychiatric evaluation for the "mother." And that the octuplets should be taken away and split up two by two, adopted by parents who can properly care for them.

Oddly, someone who is considering weight loss surgery must submit to a psychiatric review prior to any doctor considering it, to make sure they are doing it for the right reasons and also they take into account the after effects of image.
Sadly, because it has to do with reproduction it seems nothing is required, even though the decision to bear high risk multiples could have long term effects on the children like learning disabilities, retardation, and other health issues. They have no say in the matter.

The ClownCars' mother says She Oughta Here....
“And look what happened. Octuplets. Dear God,” Angela Suleman told the newspaper Friday. She said she wasn’t supportive of her daughter’s decision to try to get pregnant again.
She said she warned her daughter, “I’m going to be gone” when she gets home from the hospital.

How do you breastfeed 8 children and do anything else? Isn't it every 2 hours for one child. I can't see it. She must have some breasts on stand-by.

I'm starting NoHall's Psychotic Network. Maybe we can work together on the t.v. show.

In many news sources today, it is being reported that there is a lot of backlash against this woman and that companies that would normally be all over something like this for brand recognition are staying away. Gerber is not even offering any support. The fertility clinic that worked on her is getting branded as irresponsible. Her own mother says that she has a hard time taking care of the 6 kids she already has
And then there's this...
"For a single mother, the cost of raising 14 children through age 17 ranges from $1.3 million to $2.7 million through age 17, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture."
She was employed by a mental hospital through '08, but I bet she doesn't make enough to take care of the kids she already had let alone eight more...
