Should we abolish Daylight Savings Time?

I heard this morning that Florida Senator Bill Posey has filed a bill ending daylight savings time in Florida. If this passes and is signed into law, it would end the moving of clocks twice a year.

Personally, I do not have a problem with this, but I do have a problem with the split time zone in Florida. I am hoping that if something like this is done, then they will also move us all to a single time zone. This split zone thing is really confusing to people that are not in Florida.

Re: Should we abolish Daylight Savings Time?

Honestly, I'd love it if DST was gone. The hour difference of light in the morning that standard time provides is great. I do like being on Central Time, though, even if it is weird that a small part of the state is different.

I think it should stay as is. When I lived in Indiana, they didn't recognize DST. Part of the year you are on Eastern time and the other you are on Central time. That was such a pain in the you know what.

I prefer to not have the sun set before 5pm during the winter. Personally, I wish we were on Eastern Time, so that doesn't happen.

I have a friend in AZ and they don't recognize DST. It is a pain to remember if she is one or two hours behind at any given time.

Re: Should we abolish Daylight Savings Time?

I'm not sure if it's the same in FL, should be the same because we are in the same time zone.....

but, if we didn't follow DLST, part of the year kids would be waiting at the bus stop in the dark. Seems a little unsafe.

Re: Should we abolish Daylight Savings Time?

NO NO NO NO do NOT abolish DST!!!!!

I do not like to run errands in the dark, especially if it is raining. It is also much more difficult to get in a walk in the afternoon after I get off work when it is not DST. I DST.

Also, I personally would not be in favor of joining the Eastern time zone, because I like to watch the late news & Jay Leno's monologue before I go to bed. I also cannot fathom waiting until 9:00 p.m. for Monday Night Football to kick off.

I can, however, understand why our friends in Tallahassee would abolish DST. Right before the time changes in the fall, the sun sets at about 8:45 p.m. and doesn't come up until 7:45 a.m. I distinctly remember walking down East Call St to my 8:00 class in the dark.

I understood Senator Posey came up with this idea because he stated he gets confused.

We do now and two years after the fact there's still bellyaching about what zone we should have gone with. I dislike being in the dark so early in the spring but otherwise I don't pay much attention to it. But then again I'm not the one who has to change all the clocks in our house.

Re: Should we abolish Daylight Savings Time?

Gee, you would think that there are more pressing issues that our elected state officials could waste their time on. Let's see....they've designated Key Lime as the "official pie of Florida;" they changed the state song; they moved the primaries up, then wanted to move them back again; and now this They really go out of their way to keep the "Duh" in Floriduh.

On second thought, if they keep their brain cell occupied with piffle such as this, they aren't doing any meaningful damage--carry on Senator.

Re: Should we abolish Daylight Savings Time?

If we abolished it today, time would go back an hour, then merge into the eastern zone, time would go forward an hour. So time as we know it would be the same. Summertime all the time.
