39 Inch Coral Snake
My brother caught one yesterday.
To measure it they put it in the freezer for a few minutes and then stretched it out.
His business is in South Georgia but WAY South (think North Walton).
I didn't know they grew that big.
Has anyone ever heard of one getting big?

I've yet to see one that big but Google search says average length 24 inches, maximum length 47½ inches - so that was a mighty large snake!
Pics?

Hope they have their nursery rhyme correct and know that the coral snake is the poisonous one...

What is interesting and scary, it has been discovered by researchers that snake toxins are evolving. An example would be that a Diamond Back Rattler (at Eglin) had 2 types of toxins, Hemo and Neuro. Rattlers are Hemo and Coral snakes are Nuero. Are they mating together to create this new blend? Would this make larger Coral snakes?
I'll have to research this again, it's been a few years ago that I came across the above information. Food for thought, be vareful ou there.

I had a gentleman try to argue over a coral snake that his grandchildren were attempting to play with. They do not hurt like a pit viper, however they do cause nerve damage. Kill 'em or leave them alone.PS they can kill you.

Within a few days, the plan is for this reptile with red and yellow bands to be roaming (slithering) in the woods.

That is great news. A snake that has beaten the odds thus far deserves the chance to grow even longer.
