Tropical Storm Claudette erodes SoWal Beaches
From the Walton County Sheriff's Office:
Tropical Storm Claudette didn’t bring much in the way of rain and wind to Walton County. But, it appears the heavy surf brought in by the storm has caused erosion along the shoreline.
Over coming days, Walton County Sheriff’s Office EOC personnel will survey the damage. A preliminary survey indicates that several areas of the coastline suffered the most damage. West Watersound and west of Alys Beach each sustained around 30-to-40 feet of sand erosion. EOC personnel also report Seacrest, West Seacrest, Deer Lake, Rosemary Beach, and Grand Beach lost beach front as well to the rough surf. Approximately five feet of the re-nourished Costa Del Sol area was lost.
This week, the Walton County Sheriff’s Office helicopter will be used to survey the coastline from the sky. A complete damage report will be filed with EOC Director, Captain Mike Barker.
