Walton County, FL - Home Page
Quote:
|
The Big Redfish Lake crossing consists of three bridges total. Prior to construction on this crossing the contractor shall install a turbidity barrier and silt fences as required to prevent runoff from entering Big Redfish Lake. The bridge crossing will be constructed over wetland areas. The approach bridges include one (1) 50 fifty- foot bridge section and one (1) 112- foot bridge section. These timber bridges utilize dimensional lumber that should be readily available. The piling installation, piling cap and abutment construction is also included in this contract along with two (2) 150 linear foot prefabricated steel bridges.

So are they replacing the bridge as is or are they just installing one of those steal things like Eastern Lake got?

there is no current pedestrian bridge, and that makes it very dangerous for people on the path.

I don't know why I confused this with Draper Lake. My bad.

Well, the bid posting makes it difficult to understand exactly what will be built. It mentions
timber bridge, but also mentions prefabricated steel bridges. So, those sound different, but I guess it will be steel spans, with wooden rails or something.
The reason for the long-span bridges is to make as little impact on the coastal dune lakes as possible. At that Lake, 30A cuts the lake almost completely separating the north side from the south side with great impact. I'm glad to see the County trying to help preserve the lakes by having these lower impact improvements.

If it's anything like the Eastern Lake bridge it'll have timber ends on the banks of the lake and then they'll just lower the steel part in between.

Just read this article regarding the bridges:

Oct. 19--SANTA ROSA BEACH -- Almost $1 million in federal funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will be used to make life a bit easier for those who live and play in South Walton County.
Bothprojectswillbefunded through the nearly $790 billion measure that was passed by Congress in February. About $81 billion of that has been set aside for improving highways, roads, bridges and railways, as well as wastewater and drinking water infrastructure projects.
