Dr. Judith Bense had a great day, Friday, September 18, 2009. The UWF board named her President of the University of West Florida. She also gave the Keynote Address at "Conquistadors, Colonists and the Crown" Stories of 16th -century Spanish Florida" at Old Christ Church in Pensacola from 7 p.m. - 8 p.m. The packed church gave her a standing ovation when the position was announced. She had been acting as interim president for awhile. Here's a picture of her after the event.
Also, at the reception at the T.T. Wentworth Jr. Florida State Museum from 5 - 6:30 p.m., SoWal homeowner Dr. Jay Clune was signing copies of his new book, "Historic Pensacola." Dr. Clune is also professor and history department head at University of West Florida. Another sowaller is mentioned in acknowledgements. We'll have to have him do a book signing next time he comes over from Pensacola.
