You are dead on Mike. It really helps doing something you love but I also have to workout hard so I can continue to do what I love. If I lived in area that had waves everyday, it would probably be easier to just surf. here a few weeks go by and you can get out of surf shape fast. I finally just ordered the Px90. Wish me luck!

The older we get the more we have to workout so we will be able to workout . How hard is it to surf that first day if you have been sitting around for a month? Or how far can you hike if you have been just floating around on an innertube all summer? Heck, just hauling the laundry or doing the yardwork becomes more difficult every year if I don't workout.
Keep in mind too that while we may love our sports, skin diving, kayaking, biking, surfing, running etc, in order for them to be "building or losing" exercises as opposed to "maintenance" exercises you have to push your limits. Running 3 miles a day is really good for you but if you run the same route at the same pace everyday it becomes a less effective exercise over time. You'll maintain your weight and muscle and endurance but won't lose weight, become stronger or be able to run farther.
If you want to run faster....you have to run faster.
That said, time to get my butt in gear and do my workout.

Alright, where is everyone? I had to promise Skunkape that I wouldn't mention Power90 slackness when I took my daughter in for an office visit. Mostly because I have been slack myself, opting to pack and move boxes instead of my weights.
Bobby????90X? What's the verdict?

Still awaiting it. Not sure where it is. Then I will read everything, take pics and go for it. It may be around the 15th when I begin. I prefer to start at the 1st of the month so I may wait. Still working out with some other videos every other day but I also noticed some slacking on the power board.
It is really hard to do anything 90 days but soooooo worth it.

How is everyone else doing? I haven't been able to continue since day 8. Even then, I was on a rather modified (easier) version. I did feel I was making some progress before I had to stop.
How about everyone else? Anyone else start yet? Or anyone making good progress? Updates please!

Have not started the PX 90 yet but am real close to getting ready. I have to have my head right first. Once I begin, my competitive nature takes over and I get weird about making sure I finish! Almost a sickness. I am about a week of getting freaky!

My confession: I have been doing xp 90 about 2 to 3 times a week, you know, something always comes up. Company, illness, laziness, etc..... August 11 was my start date. 30+ days later I am 3 lbs down and lost an inch of waistline.....no bad for a slacker!!! Push ups need work, but the rest I can keep up with. What is really cool, is that I am getting an a$$....no kidding. It's muscle I hope, but I have never had much of one and I run up hill on a treadmill. Its obvious that I am working muscles that needed some work.
Once I get over the crud, I am starting again and hope to work it 6 days a week.

Not bad at all!! I'm so glad you are getting results. Stick-to-it-iveness really does pay off. Good job and keep going!!
Wishing you a speedy recovery!

The Power90 killed my knees and inflamed my plantar fasciitis. I had to start physical therapy on Friday. My PT guy said to lay off the Power90.
I am so discouraged. I felt so motivated by the DVD. Then extreme pain set in. The pain in my right knee is constant, and the pain radiates up my thigh. My feet hurt so badly that I walk with a limp. I think it was the yoga part of the DVD that did me in. When I started a yoga class last year, that messed up my knees and feet and I had to drop out.

I'm so sorry to hear this.
I know it takes a long time to get knees back in order once you mess 'em up. Maybe you will have to do a more moderate version once you are fit again. I think the best part of Power90 is the "just keep at it" approach.
My health is getting better too. I had a bit of a scare last time so I'm going to give it two more weeks before I start up again. I will probably take it even easier on myself this time.
Consistency just has to pay off even if you aren't going full-bore. Like a friend of mine used to say "doing something is much better than doing nothing."

For what its worth I had a horrible knee injury a few years back and was really struggling with what to do. It really can become a catch 22. The exercise can mess up your knees but not doing it will really mess up way more then just your knees. I started at balance taking spin. In 2 months my knees were extremely strong. You have to get those quads back in shape and they will fix your knees.
Keep in mind you do not have to keep up with the people in the video. Thats where you can get hurt. Go at your own pace.

One of the things they have me on at PT is an exercise bike to strengthen my knees. Hopefully that'll help. Really frustrating.

I can help you out with quad building, knee recovery exercises if you need them. I successfully rehabbed one knee after a hiking accident/torn miniscus/patella fixin!
Talk to your PT about squats against the wall. Slide down, hold it for 15, 20, 30 seconds and back up. Lots of balance work, stand on one leg and throw heavy ball into rebounder and catch it, do it on a wobble board if you can. Use the resistance bands attached to your ankle, the other end to heavy furniture and do pull backs to the back, front and both sides. Nice and easy! Make sure your PT is working with you. I've noticed that there are those who are really not into it and just kind of go through the motions. I've had to convince more than one that my rehab is just as important to me as any star athlete and that I wasn't there just so they could send a bill to my insurance company.
WHOSE UP FOR AN OCTOBER 1ST START??? Lots of people have said they are interested. Everyone's lives seem to have gotten in the way. What do y'all say to pushing daily workouts into the forefront of our lives? "Kids, fix your own breakfast, I'm working out." Skunkape, ready to unpack your videos yet!

Just started px90! OMG! Day one was yesterday. It was brutal. By the time we got to abs 1 hour later I could barely lift my feet to do certain crunches! I really thought I was in decent shape until I started this madness! On a positive note, I WILL DO THE 90 DAYS!

I've convinced my wife... we're in! Is there anyone that chickened out willing to part with their unopened box? I'm sure it would be therapeutic to your guilty conscience. My Doc told me exercise was good for ME!

Just finished the legs and back and ab ripper x for the day! This p90x is really hard. I appreciate all your kind words but I think I am really leaning on all you to push me through this. It is really hard to find the time to do these videos. The Power 90 was manageable because at the most 45 minutes. The p90x is really long and can take away from the family time a bit. It is almost 10:30pm and I am finishing up. I guess I have to ask myself, at this point of the night what else would I be doing. Everyone is in bed. I would do mornings early but in the beginning I am too sore to move that early. I guess it is one day at a time and for today, I am done. Thank you all for your support.

Could you possibly split the workout in half for the rest of the week until your muscles acclimate to this new brand of torture? I'll check with my friend who is a trainer and P90x god to see if he has any suggestions.
I think you are doing great.
I have just a few more boxes, several very large pieces of furniture and two empty houses to scrub and then I start rolling on Power90 with the goal of jumping to P90x with my step son in January.

It will get better. I have gotten on the chat line and this is normal. My day of rest is almost here. Like I said, the only way I will not do exactly what is in that box is when the surf is up! Tonight is Kenpo! Then rest.

Hello
Hi my name is Crystal, i'm 22 years old , about 50 pounds over weight, and I am just starting to hear the buzz about this power 90 thing. I saw the informercial for p90x and I thought wow that might really work, but even from the informercials I could tell that this was no easy feat. So i did some research and stumbled upon power 90 a more modified version of the MONSTER 90x. I really want to lose weight, just seven months ago I was 18 pounds lighter and a little happier. But i met my boyfriend and we just go out to eat all the time and he is always making me these wonderful deserts and I have just gotten way off of track. I saw this blog and thought that this is a wonderful thing you all are doing and was hoping if you would take a sad puppy like myself in as i go through my first initial 90 day trail.

Come on in! I think you are right to go after Power90 instead of P90x based on you description of where you are and Bobby's description of his current grueling workouts. As has been pointed out, it doesn't really matter WHAT you do as long as you DO IT. There are a million different workouts to choose from. Tae Bo is cool, maybe you like Sweatin to the Oldies or something else.
I can tell you that if you do Power 90 and you stick with it, you will see results right away. Same with TaeBo (Billy Banks), or couch to 5k or anything.
So figure out what you are going to do, October first is right around the corner and then do it....keep us posted.

Power 90 would be perfect to start. I did it like 4 complete 90 days before I jumped into this p90x thing. Here is the trick with power 90 or any program. Do it all. If you miss a day, hop right back on. Commit and do it no matter how sore you are. Look for reasons as to why to move forward. That voice that says stop.... Tell him/her to shut up. The results will come. The diet will be forced to improve as you can not keep working at this pace and continue in your poor eating habits. Why would you work out this hard and let it all go away for a slice of cheesecake. I think the diet is 80% of the deal. A glass of wine can be 175 calories. 3 glasses and you have just erased all your hard work. Give yourself the gift of doing something for 90 days and you will be amazed before you are half way through. I guarantee it! If you have any concerns or questions feel free to call me. I am 41 and in the best shape of my life because of these stupid videos! If this old dog can do it you surely can! Good luck and keep pushing play no matter what!!!!!

You may look on ebay. Make sure you get the complete package. The entire program is important. It's not just the DVD's. You have the bands, calendars, help books, etc. Good luck and I will keep my eyes open.

Thank you all so much for the encouraging words I think I will get started as soon as I can spare the extra sixty bucks and money for healthy food (its so sad that I am a broke college student!) But I will keep you all posted, and it should be about two weeks until i get started. I am so excited and I hope that my motivation doesnt pizzle out as I begin the workouts! Thanks again

Me! I got a little lost for a while, there. All the usual excuses--life gets in the way, you know? So I was only doing it, like, every third day... But I'm back in the game now!

Just push play no matter what. Going on day 15. Plyometrics. Pretty hard but seems to be getting easier. I get kind of obsessed over things! At least today I use it in a positive way. It was not always like that...

Congrats to Bobby J and everyone else who is doing Power 90. I am very ungraceful and was hurting my knees, etc., by moving improperly. I now have a personal trainer who watches me like a hawk to make sure I move properly. He does a lot of the same stuff as Power 90, plus weight machines. I go three times a week and do aerobics (walking, treadmill or bike at home) the rest of the time.

I did this for about 3 weeks. Started on the lean program and tried two a days. It was awful but definately works. Wish I would have held out the 90 days I just should have started off easier. Still run and bike but no p90x. Lost 50 lbs over the last two years.

Two a days is a mistake. I thought I was in shape for it but I was wrong. Two a days only lasted about days at most. I need to get back on it. Starting to slack now that Fall is her (always do). Last Winter I gained 12 lbs and had HE#$ when Spring arrived. Doing my best to stay the same this Winter. It is a change in diet that helped me the most along with the exercise of course. Was in best shape of my life last Summer and early this Spring but now I have slacked again.

It seems like it is easy to do and you are not alone. It always amazes me when we work so hard and then blow it in a few short weeks over our diet. I have finally gotten better after about 5 years of struggling. But... some nights I wake up and the oreos talk to me from the kitchen. I rarely give in these days but sometimes you just got to give in and then understand it is ok. This seems to be the place where people fall off. They just say, oh well I will start next week. Then they never do. You have to make your good diet the normal way of life and the treats the exception. Must people have this theory backwards. They eat good for a few days and they think they should be ready to run a 10k. The issue is that should be the norm. I think when we learn to eat within the healthy lifestyle and know we will have exception we begin to have long term results. A peice of cake is ok. A peice of cake everyday is not so ok.

The older you get the tougher it gets is definately the truth. In my 20's I would always gain 15 or so lbs. in the winter and then throw off 20 lbs in a month during the summer. As I reached my 30's this stopped happening. I have had to do things to make my metabolism stay healthy. Diet, water consumption, stretching and exercise all must be combined to maintain a healthy weight. Now that I am within a couple of yrs of 40 it gets tougher to withstand prolonged work outs and cardio bricks. My knees and shoulders definately took too much abuse in my younger days. I am amazed at the older elite athletes out there in all sports especially tri junkies. I trained for a mini tri for about 3 mos. before a shoulder injury stopped me and it is a tough deal.

I had every intention of re-starting on 10-1 but my health didn't cooperate. I was quietly waiting to post until I really did restart.
Things are still not quite right for me but I'm in a good mental place so I'm going to start today at my slow, lots of rest pace. I'm really kinda looking forward to it.
I really appreciate everyone still posting, particularly you Mr. Bobby J the P90X-pert! It is inspiring and just a little bit guilt inducing!

True dat on the guilt inducing. I hate having nothing to report.
I had a great trip to Bham and spent the evening with my old training partner, it killed me to see how far as he gone as he continued to train while I ground to a halt and let my "other life" take over. Playing on the softball has also been a real motivator. If I were in better shape I wouldn't pull any muscles making that jump to run to third.
The weekend is being spent getting all of my "other life" in order (and unpacked) so I can have a calm, quiet, decluttered space to workout Monday.

The guilt is self induced/self inflicted, you didn't cause it, I promise. I nearly cry every time I see someone running 30A because I'm not out there. My fault, not theirs or yours.
Sorry you are all tweaked up. Nice and slow coming back. Definitely with spinal and neck stuff you have to keep moving when you are hurt just more gingerly and at an easy pace.

I am back at it. Neck still stiff but had to just modify. I think when I rest too much it gets worse. Push on and push play! Day 22 today. This will be 30 day week. It is really hard but you just modify if it is too much. I already feel a huge difference. I can not imagine at the end of this how good I will feel. Bev is doing great as well. She had a little setback early on with the flu but has already gotten back on track. She has a six pack and almost 40 years old!!!!!!

Today is stretch day.... this is the recovery week. It is still strenous but no heavy lifting. More cardio and yoga. what a program, I highly recomemnd it but do power 90 first. This one will make walking painful if you are not ready. Today is day 25 and I feel like I may make it through this thing!

I have not gotten into the Push Play habit yet. I am hoping it is only due to trying to get settled in and finding so many more things that I need to be expending energy on. The days I have made it to the button have made me realize that I have made a couple of steps backwards and will have to build up again.
However, top tier eating is going so well. After a week of loving roasted veggies, brown rice, quality protein, and less processed junk I am feeling much better. I don't think I realized how much I was letting all of my teenaged eaters negatively impact my traditionally healthy diet.
A better diet is definitely making it easier to get motivated to get moving.
The cool weather coming in is helping a lot too!

Wow! What a thread. I am truly inspired to do something as well. Where to start? Change eating diet for a bit, then push play.....
Skunkape, you haven't posted on this thread since the box arrived....a week ago. That was back on 8/8. Are you ready to sell it to me unopened or are you secretly closing in on day 90 and about to amaze us all?
I am a bit afraid to start any program this time of the year as it is holiday season.
I'd like to toss it our for discussion. How are some of you dedicated folks adjusting for the holiday season? Do you deny yourself? Do you crank up the workouts to overcome the additional calories? Do you just plan to work it off after the first of the year? Might help some of us lurkers to know we can survive the next two months somehow.
Keep on keeping it up Bobby J! It's pretty cool to see the timeline of this thread and how many have had their struggles, but keep coming back for inspiration.

About to do day 34. Legs and back. A little banged up from lots of surf and fortunately pushed through the workouts even after surfing. I gotta tell you, I could not have done that in the past. Surfing 3-4 hours is normally enough but this p90x thing can really bring your fitness to another level! I appreciate all the kind words but really all I do is push play, do my best, and forget the rest.... It is that simple. Not to mention I have quite a past with 90 day programs. LOL!
