It's hard to get off the vacation pounds!
For anyone who read my TR, you know that we ate tons of great food while in SoWal for 2 weeks. Well, I will have been home for 2 weeks tonight and have only lost half of the lbs that I gained on vacation!! It's sooooo much harder to lose it than it was to put it on. Clearly it was MUCH more fun to put on the lbs than to take them off, too!!
I've been awake for almost an hour now putting off my morning trip to the gym; I guess it's time to get off the computer and get into my gym shoes!

Good for you - by the time you read this you will have been to the gym and are patting yourself on the back for getting with it!
Keep up the good work - Vacations are for splurging - back to reality!

I am back from the gym and I'm glad I'm done with the work out for the day!!
I'm off to wash the car, pick up a nice healthy sandwich then on to the pool for a while-gotta keep my lovely golden brown tan up!

Buy the power 90 video and dedicate 90 days to it. Do exactly as the package tells you. In 90 days you will be in the best shape of your life. I have done this video four times over the years and have gotten hooked on doing videos at home. Some are only 20 minutes. These things are amazing. I am 42 and in better shape then I have ever been because of Power 90! it really works.

Good for you!
My problem (excuse) is that we are at the beach about two dozen times a year. So it's like two dozen vacations a year. Can't pass up the great restaurants, a beer for lunch at Red Bar, a cocktail at sunset, and wine with dinner.

Does this require any special equipment?
Daughter and I had a lot of success with a Billy Blanks video several years ago. I looked hilarious because I could never do the moves gracefully.

I'll check out the Power 90 video. I have no dance abilities (unless you count looking stupid and like an oaf an ability) and to even follow the moves of Billy Blanks and such is a challenge for me! I think that's why I've been sticking to walking or the crossramp machine since it doesn't require special coordination!
I had a big porterhouse for dinner-not quite the diet food I should have had but I did trim all of the fat off, that counts for something right!
We usually take a 2-3 short trips as well as another one week trip in addition to my work travels so I spend a lot of time on the road and every trip puts me backwards on my weight loss plan!

Hand weights and a yoga mat. It really works. My wife gave it a whirl and when she started she could do like 2-3 guy pushups. When the 90 days was over she was doing 25 guy pushups. I can do 60-70 pushups and was maybe doing 20 when I started. I will add that it is a 90 day program. You must do this 6 days a week with no exceptions.

Curious....are Power 90 and P90X one in the same or different?
My brother is doing P90X and says the videos mean business, but are totally worth it. Most average about an hour and the results are impressive.

They are from the same company. Power 90 would be the one you would like to start with. It would be the step up to the P90X. They both are very good. Do not get P90X until you are ready. It also last about an hour. Power 90 ranges from 30 min. to 45. When I mentioned 20 minutes I was talking about a few other videos that I have depending on my time. I have hundreds and have found for me that is the way to go. I get a complete body workout in a short time. Just push play and do the video.
If you really want to transform your body, get Power 90 and follow the instruction right down to taking the before, 45 day and after pics. Your before and after pics will shock you. I would post mine if my before was not so embarrassing. BTW, the food choices are as critical as the workout. Good Luck!

Does it require a lot of workout space? I did a video a couple of years ago that require so much space that I had to rearrange my furniture every day!

I don't lose any weight on South Beach. The EggBeaters, salads with poultry, and V8 juice get really old. I miss my Cheerios in the AM and turkey sandwiches for lunch. Dinner without carbs makes me want to gnaw my arm off by about 8 PM.
I think that I need the carbs just to have the energy to exercise.

Not really that much. Lunges may take the most space but that is really all.
One lunge forward, squats in the middle and then one more lunge and turn back around. So three large steps forward then turn so not really that much.

Thanks for posting. I've wondered about these and didn't want to take the fnancial hit to find out if they were worthwhile. It is time to get ready for an October adventure race and this could be just the addition I need to the bike/"run"/paddle I've been doing.
There are a couple of them out there though. Which one are you talking about? There is the power90 boot camp that is like 6 dvds and then Power90 that is three workouts. I suppose either would be good, huh.

NO! NO! NO! Stop all this losing weight crap. Those pounds were fun and expensive to pack on, wear them with pride!

Power 90. It is two Cd's. The first Cd is 1-2 cardio and 1-2 strength. you rotate these until you work to the second CD which is 3-4 cardio and 3-4 strength. You also do abs on cardio day. very easy program to follow. I just turn the tunes up real loud and don't listen to him any more. By the end of it you are ready to kill Tony Horton. Good stuff.

I have the P90X series....it's expensive, but well worth it if you actually do it.
It is more intense that the power 90, and it does require you to have things like dumbbells or straps, chair, pull up bar, yoga mat...etc.
I think if you want to see easy results, quickly, I would stick with the power 90...then maybe advance to the P90X.
At any rate, no matter what you choose- if you stick with something, you're going to see results.

Y'all have inspired me. I decided to stop putting off exercising until the afternoon because I am too tired by then and then don't do it. So I have been setting the alarm and exercising first thing in the AM. It gives me a sense of well being, plus I have more energy during the day. Thanks, girls!
Still dunno what I'm gonna do when I need to be at work by 7:30 starting on 9/2. An hour to put on exercise clothes/shoes and work out, 30 minutes to cool down and have breakfast, and 30 minutes to dress. That means a 5:30 alarm.

A note to tourists with friends who live at the beach:
If you think it is difficult to get the "vacation pounds" off the belt, please remember that we live here year round, and typically have friends visiting every other week, all who want to go out and eat and drink like tourists every day. It's delicious and fun, but please don't try to twist our arms if we decline. We are not on vacation, and our bodies cannot afford to dine and party as though we ARE on vacation.

I don't understand "vacation pounds" - on my days when I am being a tourist in my hometown I get more exercise than usual. All of that beach time and partying is exhausting!

Thanks, Bobby J. Recently, I've heard so many people struggling through their guests visits, and they are exhausted when the guests leave, and fat, and dehydrated, and broke, etc. I thought about writing an entire full-page letter to our friends, but I haven't had a chance to write it yet.

I don't even live full time at the beach, but I hear your pain. We frequently do cereal/fruit for a late breakfast, skip lunch, and have a nice dinner. But when we have guests, we have to assume that they want three meals. We can provde an inexpensive breakfast, mandate a dinner menu, but somehow lunch (which we would skip) is an "I'm hungry, but you decide" event. That translates into us paying for a lunch for a group (everyone conveniently left their wallets) when we were okay just eating a few walnuts and some fruit.

Ok, I promise not to beg you to go and eat anything with me. However, I would like to give you a two week notice that I would like to buy you a beer while I am in your neck of the woods, please.

You are welcome to stop by for a drink anytime you see our vehicle at our house in Seagrove. Warning: we might still have on our PJs, but I go to Publix in mine.

It's delicious and fun, but please don't try to twist our arms if we decline. We are not on vacation, and our bodies cannot afford to dine and party as though we ARE on vacation.

We have actually had to send out calendars to our friends so they can reserve their slot at our house. We are booked up in July and most of August. Some of them will go out for a run or a bike ride with me but then we consume enough to totally negate any of the aforementioned activity.

You should see my wife. She is lean, mean fighting machine! After she did the 90 days she is in the best shape I have ever known her to be. Remember, what you put in is critical but do not ever let yourself be hungry.
Good luck and keep us posted. Just shut up and push play!

I just don't want to wind up with facial hair!
I had a serious ankle injury/surgery not long before I moved here. Since the move down here I stopped training on my mountain bike and being serious about running. If I can get into the shape I was in before moving to VactionLand, I'll be very happy.
My goal is to finish the Coosa River Challenge in 3.5 hours or less in October so this workout is only part of my riding/paddling/running training. Three years ago I did it in that time. Last year I was pushing it to finish in 6.

I hope your wife see this - man, what a wonderful compliment!!
A eating habit that works for me is Hara Hachi Bu - translated it means stop eating when 80% full. Now this might now work on vacation but in day to day life it works for me.

I don't do the Hara Hachi Bu, but I do the "mid-meal pause" to allow my "full tummy" sensors to catch up w/ my fork.

Ok, we held off starting until today. ChefEd wanted a good, clean beginning of the week start point. What a bonding experience for a couple, crying together on the deck with the sweat pouring down.
It was actually a good workout. I was able to do more pushups than I thought I would but fewer than required. My arms are rubber now. The squats and lunges felt great though.
Can't wait for tomorrow's cardio. I test drove that video Friday and it kicked my butt half way through.
Life is good.
