Uvula issue
I am having a truly horrific experience. If i continue with my planned activities for the day I will be unable to talk much and probably will just sit there looking funny. That little punching bag thing in my throat is swollen and causing me to gag when I try and talk. It also feels like I am swallowing my tongue pieces at a time. Anyone had this before? I had a buddy it happened to in H.S. I expect it will be gone tomorrow and I am going to try to attend to my schedule . It feels like the clapper in a bell moving around back in there.

Re: Uvula issue
I recently had my tonsils, adnoids AND uvula removed. It was a horrific experience. If your ENT recommends surgery, get another opinion.

Re: Uvula issue
I had this happen after my appendectomy--they told me that the tube they stuck down my throat had probably scratched it and irritated it. (Hurt like the devil!) They got me some Magic Mouthwash and it cleared it right up. Magic Mouthwash is a concoction that the pharmacist mixes up--google it for more info--but you'll have to get a prescription.

Re: Uvula issue
My uvula used to swell up like that after a hard night of snoring (usually following a hard night of spirits ) Honestly felt like a piece of steak was stuck in my throat! Did get a consult from a surgeon, and like JB said, the effects of the surgery sounded worse than the problem. I started using a CPAP machine a few years ago and haven't had a problem since.

Re: Uvula issue
gargle with warm salt water will reduce swelling. Biotene mouthwash is good for restoring natural PH of the mouth.

Re: Uvula issue
Hey, you may need to get something lanced like Mr. JR did a few years back! Man, talk about being horrified! But he also had a high fever and general malaise. Keep a check on it. You'll definitely know when you'll need to do something about it.

Re: Uvula issue
Thank you all very much. Magic Mouthwash...ick I tried that on a dare a while back..no mas, besides the gum number effect had me jonesing. Like chrisv mentioned-the snoring I think plus weather change plus dehydration plus cat allergies from a part time pet. It feels to me like I put half a pack of Big League Chew bubble gum in my mouth and have halfway swallowed it, like when you were a kid and would swallow gum and pull it back up with one end. The steak analogy is a fair representation also.

Re: Uvula issue
That stuff is horrible!! I had uvulitis last year (sounds like what you have) and was in SO much pain that I went to the ER. Don't really remember what they did for it, but I have never had my throat hurt that badly. See a doctor, soon.

Re: Uvula issue
OMG! Mr. Kitty has had that multiple times...very freaky! All he can remember doing (other than gagging) is gargling salt water. Good luck!

Is that why you were so quiet at lunch and I had to eat your dessert? Actually I'd put money on these two statements above. I've been through this. It goes away. Salt water does work. However, if it doesn't, see a doctor.
Heck I wish you had said something. I had needle nose plyers in my glove compartment, could have pulled that sucker right out, gave you a bowl of ice cream and you'd be over it by now.

a fellow trained surgeon. I carry a gutter nail and a 22oz. hammer around with me full time in case I need to perform emergency brain surgery or elective for that matter. Maybe we can barter services . I think you still had not arrived when I told the tables.

Sounds like you can perform emergency tracheotomy too. Better keep that stuff in handy. Maybe we can go into business together, kinda like Nip/Tuck!
