OPEN HOUSE, DEC. 5, Walton County Heritage Museum

Another great reason to visit SoWal and Walton County in Autumn and Winter. Come Early. Extend Your Stay. Make It Your Home.

OPEN HOUSE

Make plans to attend the Walton County Heritage Museum's "Open House" on Saturday, December 5, 2009. The museum is centrally located to the annual "Tour of Homes" and the Chautauqua Hall of Brotherhood's "Festival of Trees" held in DeFuniak also on that day. Stop by the museum before, during or after your home tour or tree festival to relax and view our Victorian and Historic Homes DVD. Free admission to the Walton County Heritage Museum, donations appreciated. You'll want to also plan to spend extra time shopping and eating in historic DeFuniak Springs during this fun filled day. With so much to do, you'll probably want to come early or extend your visit to Walton County. From the many historic venues in Walton County to the beautiful white beaches of South Walton, you have many reasons to linger.

Snowbirds: Make plans now to come early and enjoy the museum and this special event. Locals: Invite family and friends to come visit Walton County during this great time of year.

FYI Please Note: The "Tour of Homes" is a ticketed event sponsored by Partners in Progress. The "Festival of Trees" is also a fund raising event sponsored by the Chautauqua Hall of Brotherhood (CHOB). The CHOB is raising funds for the historic Chautauqua Building. I'll post more details from these seperate events by other organizations when available.

Woo-hoo! I am overdue for a "Defuniak Day"!

Hard to beat a day trip to see the Museum, Holiday Tour of Homes, lunch, shopping, and then light display!

The lights are going up around the lake and decorations are beginning to appear. Tell your friends and family to make their plans now to visit. I would expect there are some excellent values for accommodations.

The Walton County Heritage Museum is open Wed. - Saturday 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Admission is free, donations always appreciated. Open House has extended hours of 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

December 5 is also the day for the ANNUAL TOUR OF HOMES sponsored by Partners in Progress, a non-profit public service organization. "Experience an Old-Fashioned Christmas" Tickets on Sale Day of Tour (Saturday, Dec. 5) 8 am - 3 pm at DeFuniak Springs Visitors Center on Circle Drive (next door to museum). The tours are open until around 4 pm, but tickets will not be sold after 3 pm.

Adults $16 and Children under 12 $5 (Babes in arms: free)

For more information on the ANNUAL TOUR OF HOMES call 850-892-3191 or 850-892-2004.

This is the cute little Visitor's Center where you'll go to get tickets for the Annual Tour of Homes. They will begin selling tickets at 8 a.m. the day of the event. I believe they are open on Friday and Saturday's for general information from around 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is located next to the museum on Circle Drive in DeFuniak Springs, Florida.

Just one of the unique history books you can purchase at the Walton County Heritage Museum. We will give a copy of this book as a door prize at the Open House on Saturday, December 5. Register to win by completing an evaluation form. Drawing will be held at 5 p.m.

I'll be participating in special guided tours and trolley rides around the lake that day. Otherwise, I'll be at museum. Hope to see you there!

Tomorrow -- Dec. 5 -- Open House at WCHM

Tomorrow, Saturday, is the big day, the Walton County Heritage Museum Open House. A great day to be visiting our museum and the historic homes and venues of Walton County. Wear your cozy warm clothes and experience the past.

I understand that Bogey's will be open for lunch on Saturday from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. and dinner from 5 p.m. to close. Bogey's is located in Hotel DeFuniak in historic downtown DeFuniak Springs in what was originally the Masonic Building. Maybe they'll be playing the new Angels and Demons movie on their bar tv. This restaurant, along with many others, will be open for meals, hot coffee and snacks throughout the day. Shopping for that unique gift in tea rooms and antique shops promise some real finds. Don't forget about the Chautauqua Hall of Brotherhood Christmas Tree display in the Chautauqua Building and a trolley ride or the Christmas Reflections light show around the lake.

Open House Today at Walton County Heritage Museum 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

The weather has a brisk feel about it and should be perfect for touring. The Walton County Heritage Museum will be cozy and welcoming for Open House this Saturday, Dec. 5. Warm homes await you on the Tour of Homes. The Christmas Tree exhibit is indoors at the Chautauqua Building and parking is convenient and close. It was nice being outside/inside last night at Seaside for First Friday and L2 Gallery's premier of last years TDC Artist of the Year Michael McCarty's new painting. So, grab that coat or sweater you had on last night and get out and enjoy the day.
