Science Fair | The Second Annual Rep Intern Summer Show | Aug 7th & 8th @ 7:30PM
The Seaside Repertory Theatre will close its acclaimed 2009 summer season with Science Fair, a play written by Jeanmarie Williams and presented by the Rep Intern Company. This comedy will run for two nights only, Friday August 7, and Saturday August 8, at 7:30 PM, in the Seaside Meeting Hall Theatre. Tickets are $15, and can be purchased by calling the Rep box office at 850-231-0733, or online at www.seasiderep.org. All proceeds from Science Fair will directly benefit the Seaside Repertory Theatre Intern Program.
Told in a series of monologues , Science Fair shares with us the stories of Kiki, Marcee, Michelle, Jethro and Gretchen. In Act I they are high school students presenting their science fair projects: a treatise on Social Darwinism, a potato clock, the effectiveness of Girl Scout Cookie sales tactics, the effects of music on growing plants, and the hazards of nuclear energy.. Act II takes place twelve years later at their high school reunion. Social Darwinist Kiki is the emcee, and the only one of the original group in attendance… but we learn through several scenes what has become of her former classmates’ lives. Science Fair presents us with five offbeat kids, up close, warts and all, and lets us catch a glimpse of their future trajectories, daring us to take notice where society did not.
Directed by Rep Development Director Carol Gagliardi, Science Fair features the 2009 Rep Interns Brianna Weintraub as Gretchen, Lucy Livingston as Michelle, Wade Howard as Jethro, and Kaylyn Carter as Kiki, and Rep Intern Alums Kendell McNay as Marcee, and KC Shaffer as the Production Stage Manager.
“We are very proud of our interns and what they are able to accomplish over the course of a year,” says Rep Associate Director Kevin Boyle. “The Intern Program has added so much to the vitality of our theatre, and our presence in the community. The Intern Productions offer a great opportunity for them to demonstrate their skills, while having fun and raising money for the program.”
Any interested local high-school aged students are invited to join the Seaside Repertory Theatre’s year-long unpaid Internship Program. Each intern dedicates 15 hours per week/60 hours per month to learning and performing every responsibility associated with operating a professional theatre, including working backstage crews for sets, lights, sound, costumes and props. Interns work closely with professional directors, designers, crew, and actors while providing labor support, in order to understand each process from start to finish. Rep interns also operate the box office and perform house management and ushering duties during the Rep’s main stage productions, and spend time in the Rep office, learning administrative operations including marketing, public relations, fundraising and memberships. An educational component is currently being developed which will offer bi-monthly workshops with a professional company member teaching the interns different artistic elements of theatre. Workshops will include acting through monologue work and scene study, improv techniques, script analysis and writing, and directing short scenes. Every summer and winter the interns produce a play, directed by a Rep professional company member, and presented on the Rep’s main stage, with all proceeds directly benefitting the Rep Intern Program. For more information, please contact Kevin Boyle at 850-231-3033.

Yes, you have seen them working their tails off at the Seaside and Watercolor kids' shows, and at the Meeting Hall Theatre for Book of Liz. You don't see their "behind the scenes" work that help run this theatre - but you can see how much talent they have and how much fun they are by attending the Intern Show! Please get your tickets today!

Please come to see this show if you can! The interns have done an incredible job this year, both with this play, and all of the backstage work in every Rep production. Their talent and skill level they display in Science Fair is awesome, you will not be disappointed! All proceeds from ticket sales directly benefit the Rep Intern Program - treat yourself to a night of great theatre and do good for our community by helping out this group of fabulous high school students!

It was great to see so many people at tonight's open dress rehearsal! The performance was fantastic, and the audience loved it. There are only two performances, tomorrow and Saturday - don't miss it!
The Rep Interns (& alums :) ROCK!
