When you are not connected to wifi, at the top of your display will be an "E" for edge network which is the ubiquitous slow service, or "3G".

Unfortunately I'm still on Edge 
I was told it would be today too. Is anyone getting 3G?
FYI, you have to make sure 3G is enabled on your phone...
Settings > General > Network > Enable 3G "On"

No 3G for me yet...
Although, I must say that sometimes when I am in ATL I don't think 3G is any faster- but maybe its just because of the masses on the network up there...

BTW, My understanding is that Verizon is working on getting iPhones, so for all of you entering contracts with AT&T just to get the iPhone, you may want to reconsider.

I was in the At&T store asking a zillion questions about this new IPhone that is waaaaay too technical for me....anyway, they said Ida (the storm that almost was) interfered with 3G progress, and they were shooting for having it up "before the end of the year." 
That's OK with me- I can barely figure out how to answer this thing, much less surf the net or access email!

When my AT&T contract ends in Febuary I will switch to Verizon! Thanks for all the info.
I want the Iphone, and if Verizon has it, then that clinches it!

Someone had mentioned that our area might get this service soon...my Iphone wants it for Christmas. Anyone know anything?

See above - it seems AT&T is like a lot of other "big service" companies. You get it when they feel like it and sales people are the last to know.
