Where to rent a car
Srich3 and I are flying into VPS on Oct. 1. Is there a place to rent a car away from the airport that is not an arm and a leg. Would they come get us at the terminal? Any assistance would be helpful.
(Kurt, if this is the wrong spot for this, please move it.)

vps airport has just completed a rental car building separate from the airport. i fly out of there often and find it rather easy to get things done. i think youll be pleasantly surprised. or what the heck, just get a limo and roll like a king.....or queen

It depends on your needs once you're here. One sowaller recently arrived and couldn't get a rental car so he took the shuttle. Seemed to get around just fine without a car.

the best bet is to start checking with them online now. And try to book your car on a weekday. I recently took the time to check rates on several different days of the week and found I could save a ton if I just booked the car on a Wednesday instead of a Friday or Saturday. I know there is one at Sandestin and I am almost certain they have a shuttle.Pretty sure it is Enterprise. Just sign up with them (and the others and keep checking back) and wait til you find the deal that suits you then rent the car online.

There's an Enterprise Car Rental a mile or two from VPS airport in Valparaiso right on Government Ave (go right when you exit the airport and it's only like a mile or two down the road) and another one in the Uptown Station shopping center in Ft. Walton Beach right on Eglin Parkway. I've used both locations with no problems.
If they don't have a shuttle, it's a pretty short cab ride to either location.
And I agree to keep checking, and also see if you can get any sort of discount (AAA, occupational, those flyers that come with a credit card bill that usually go right into the trash) The last time we suddenly needed a minivan for a day, mister mouse found a discount code from the credit card bill thing, and Hertz ended up being the best price for things.

I'm pretty sure Enterprise will pick you up at VPS.
I've used their service out of Destin/Sandestin and a colleague that I used to travel with (no more travel here, but I digress...) uses Enterprise in Crestview. Never had a complaint, but it was sort of funny the time I picked up a vehicle at Sandestin and it was a fully-tricked-out double cab GMC pickup...my trip was through Perry to Crystal River so I fit right in!

Thanks for the input. I just don't want to pay an arm and a leg a VPS if I don't have to. We'll see you all in October. Hopefully I can meet some of you.
