It's a dog's life

Posted 01-22-2009 at 01:52 PM by Walton Outdoors

Dog lovers abound in Walton

Dog n 1. A domestic carnivorous animal that typically has a long muzzle, pointed ears, a fur coat, and a long fur-covered tail, and whose characteristic call is a bark. Latin name: Canis familiaris

Why is it that we love dogs? For many, having a dog in their life is a given, they are playful, energized with full of unconditional love.
As a source of information, the following is a collection of resources for man’s (and woman’s) best friend.

A special place to play
In 2006, a long awaited Bark Park was established by a group of ambitious volunteers. The park boasts 2 acres of play area, with one section for large dogs and another for small.
The off-leash park is located on J.D. Miller Road, in Santa Rosa Beach.

The park is a non-profit organization, and with more than 100 members, and is busy with playful K9s most any afternoon.

Pat Carlyle is the president of Bark Park organization, and has two standard poodles along with a newly adopted boxer mix. She hopes for continued volunteerism to keep the park up and running.

“The Bark Park relies solely on donations and memberships,” Pat said.

The Bark Park has upcoming fundraisers planned for 2009, along with hosting canine training classes. Members of the Bark Park receive discounts from local vendors such as pet sitters and groomers.

Paddlers on Western Lake

Kayaks an easy fit for anyone interested in outdoor fun

With the Gulf of Mexico, the Choctawhatchee Bay and numerous lakes, creeks and rivers in the area, kayaking is a popular sport in the Panhandle. And with little maintenance cost after purchase, kayaking can be enjoyed by most anyone.
There are two basic configurations to choose from, the traditional cockpit style and the sit on top. In a variety of lengths, kayaks range from 8 - 20 ft. and weigh in anywhere from 40 - 70 lbs. Deciding which kayak to choose depends on the type of paddle experience one is looking for.

I would like to introduce waltonoutdoors.com

Posted 10-10-2008 at 09:30 AM by Walton Outdoors

I would like to introduce waltonoutdoors.com to SoWal.

The new website is a creation of a SoWal resident for more than 16 years. A place where people can go and find out everything there is to do in Walton County outdoors.

Upcoming events are posted along with a weekly feature column about destinations, called Venture Walton.

The site also sports a calendar, so you can click on specific dates and easily see activities by the day.

Please send me emails and info you feel would be pertinent to the site and I would be delighted to post.

It is driven by the community, for the community.

I will also be posting stories about my adventures throughout Walton called Venture Walton.
Thanks for viewing! Lori
