New Sounds for Summer at Central Square!
Hey all, hope the first weekend of summer was all you wanted it to be; I enjoyed a great band, Good Enough for Good Times (featuring 2 members of Galactic, Jeff Raines on guitar and Robert Mercurio on bass) at Bluz, the new venue in Miramar Beach. Great space for live music, and the band was smokin hot. The other two members, Simon Lott on drums and Joe Ashlar on Hammond B3/Fender Rhodes, hemmed it in nicely, holding their own with the vets as well as bringing something new to the stage. Covering mostly 60s groove-laden jazz, they expound on the music and take it to new heights. With Destin's own Chief Cherry sitting in on sax, the night was one solid groove.
As for the new noise at Central Square Records in Seaside, check these customer and staff picks to set your summer straight. There's got to be something for everyone here.
Phosphorescent To Willie - nice, mellow indie covers of the coolest country star since Cash. Best for imbibing in the sun, playing a hand of cards, or just plain chillin.
Grizzly Bear Veckatimest - new material from Brooklyn-based indie songsters. Amazing depth of material and beautiful melodies. Definite winner!
Eric Lindell Gulf Coast Highway - beach-inspired blues from New Orleans-rooted guitarist/singer. One of our best sellers this spring/summer. For fans of Mofro.
Bob Dylan Together Through Life - new (and actually good!) material from the legendary songwriter. Featuring guest spots from Mike campbell (Tom Petty & Heartbreakers) and David Hidalgo (Los Lobos),and material cowritten by Dylan and Robert Hunter, this is a solid for young and old alike.
Dan Auerbach Keep It Hid - solo outing from Black Keys guitarist/vocalist; still keeps the reverb-blues-stomp going, but tinged with some slower blues ballads. This is the new direction of Mississippi blues as sung by a most talented Ohio-bred white boy.
Heartless Bastards The Mountain - Black Keys label mate (Fat Possum Records), as fronted by thundering female singer/guitarist, Erika Wennerstrom. A female version of Auerbach's debut, irresistible.
That should get you started, keep in touch for Part 2! Happy summertime!
