30A Radiothon

Posted Today at 04:26 PM by 30A Radio

Upcoming Event:

Our 3rd Annual 30A Radiothon is December 4th at noon through December 5th at noon. Our goal this year is $15,000!!!

We need your help to stay on the air another year! 30A Radio is a not for profit 501(3)c organization that relies totally on our listener’s support! Join us for what is sure to be an exciting 24 hours of 30A Radio.
For starters, the station needs new equipment to keep things running smoothly. Danny, our Operations Manager, needs a computer that won't crash every time he does remote work on the station’s studio. Also, some of our ancient broadcast gear dates back to WWII, and is on it’s last leg. We would like to bring our sonic integrity up to date for all of our faithful listeners. And we have our new Web/Podcast site we would like to continue to provide for you, as well.

We also need our own live, on location DJ equipment. Every time we do a live remote we have to borrow a PA system. Mark Stroop and John R (thank you for being the great supporters of 30A Radio that you have been) have always been there for us with loaner equipment. But, as we do more community events, they may not always be able to provide us with help.

We invite you to browse the new 30A Radio Website and help us out in any way you are able. We are offering some pretty competitive prices on some very cool stuff.

The point is, a station as good as ours takes a few bucks to keep...

Half Marathon Weekend is HERE!

Posted 02-27-2009 at 10:26 AM by 30A Radio

Good Friday to you all!
Tomorrow marks the 7th Annual Seaside Neighborhood School's largest Fund Raising effort for the year! Saturday Feb. 28 at 12:30 the music starts at the race expo on the Lyceum lawn. 30-A Radio will have our wonderful Amavida Coffee Radio Dog label for sale as well as our new designed radio t-shirts.
We also will be taking song dedications for race day (March 1st)! For $1 you can dedicate a song to yourself or for a runner. We will announce it live during the race. "This one is for Bob from Birmingham his first half marathon Doobie Brothers Long Train Runnin'! Keep going free beer at the end of the road!

We will have live coverage of the entire race route with Djs up and down the course calling leader numbers, times and those most important facts like, the man dress as a yellow chicken just past mile marker 6! Or my personal favorite from years past......the mullet men in cuttoff jean shorts and converse high tops!
Seriously, there are some very great runners who bring in fantastic times on this beautiful course!

The race starts a half hour earlier this year 7:00am for the Half and 7:25 for the 5k. Pre Race Music starts at 5:55am. Shuttles begin at 5AM from the WaterColor Publix parking lot on 395. Keep it tuned to 107.1 locally. It's going to be GREAT!

We have a lot of fun at this event and we at 30-A Radio and the Seaside Neighborhood School want to thank the hundreds...

Act of Congress concert at the REP Theater. WOW!!

When I first got the word from Merchants of Seaside Events Coordinator, Adam Shiland, that he wanted 30A Radio to help promote and present several events at Seaside, I was quite pleased. I have always thought Adam had great taste in music. He is a former DJ at 30A and we still miss his show “Mo Better Music”.

Then he sent us a MySpace link to Birmingham band, Act of Congress, and I was immediately hooked. I am an extreme audiophile and a shrewd judge of musical talent. I found AOC to be a group of exceptionally talented musicians, singers, songwriters, and song arrangers. Their attention to detail and dedication to song crafting is second to none.

I prefer not to interview artists because it takes much preparation and research to do correctly. But after listening to the CD “Declaration”, I was so hooked on the band that I actually asked if I could do one with them. This is something I have never done with any act since I began working with 30A Radio. I usually turn down interviews because I tend to be brutally honest with the subjects, and have a difficult time interviewing people who make music that is not to my liking. The interview with AOC was the easiest I have ever done.

30A Radio, The Merchants of Seaside, and Adam Shiland did our best to promote the free Valentines Day event at the amphitheater. It was the season’s first such event. The band also generously consented to do a “teaser” performance on the porch at Sundog Books/Central...
