The county awarded a $155,340 contract to Contech Bridge Solutions Inc., of Fort Payne, Ala., to construct two steadfast steel pedestrian bridges over Eastern and Oyster lakes. The spans will be of similar construction to the bridge already in place over Draper Lake, and will reduce the hazards of combining vehicular and foot traffic. A bid sheet estimates the spans will be delivered 12-14 weeks after a one-third deposit is received, and they should be operational less than a month after delivery.

That's great news. Now maybe they will put similar bridges over the two Western Lake overpasses. Those overpasses are very SCARY for bikers.

And walkers. I was about blown over the concrete rail into the water last week.

I'm so glad about that. We're always on our bikes, crossing over both lakes, and we've never been bothered but I do notice lots of families with young children. This will be so much safer for the little ones on their bicycles.
