On the afternoon of Septemeber 16, 2004, Ivan's remnants brought a tornado outbreak and deadly flooding to North Georgia. I remember being evacuated out of a large lecture hall because of a Tornado Warning, and the whole UGA campus was placed on lockdown for over an hour as a series of storm cells showing significant rotation moved over the area. It was rather exciting.
Smiling JOe...you stayed for Ivan, right? Tell me about the winds.

We had to leave for Ivan as well. We were in Columbus, GA (hey, it is safer than NOLA!). I remember driving home on I-65 seeing the wreckage worsen the further south we went, gas lines and folks who lived on the coast kind of waiting to get back home.

September 2004 was the beginning of a long three months for me! I was sent to Mobile, Alabama to assist in providing oversight of the Alabama debris removal mission. I remember being so stunned at the horrific damage that occurred in some of the Alabama Counties. However, it paled in comparison to the damage that took place in Louisiana and Mississippi thanks to Katrina and Rita!
Hopefully this year's hurricane season will pass uneventfully!!
