Ok, someone please post a recipe for fish tacos. I have some fish, and I want to make tacos. I don't have any recipes. I know I could look online, but I would rather get one from some you fine folks.

Thanks in advance!

Here's my daughter's recipe. I've posted it before but can't find it.

Fish Tacos

1-2 pounds of white fish (such as tilapia, grouper, etc.)
5 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 lime, juiced
6 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon paprika
2 teaspoons dry wasabe
10-15 slices of preserved jalapenos, chopped
3-4 tablespoons of liquid from jalapenos
1 jalapeno pepper, finely chopped
1 sweet onion, coarsely chopped

Marinate fish for at least one hour in olive oil, lime juice, garlic, garlic salt, garlic powder, kosher salt, paprika, wasabe powder, jalapenos, jalapeno juice, and poblanos.

Sauté onion in 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Add fish, and cook until done. While cooking, put the soft tacos in the microwave until warm.

Serve with Hot Pepper Cole Slaw.

Hot Pepper Cole Slaw

1/2 bag of pre-shredded cole slaw mix
4 tablespoons of Hellman’s light mayonnaise
1/4 teaspoon paprika
1 large pinch of dry wasabe
10-15 slices of pickled jalapenos, chopped
3 tablespoons of liquid from jalapenos
1 jalapeno pepper, finely chopped
1 large pinch of sugar

Mix together the ingredients above.

Go to foodtv.com (Food Network) and search fish tacos. You'll find a Bobby Flay fish taco recipe that calls for a marinade made with cilantro, a little hot pepper sauce, lime juice. Throw the fish on the grill and it's fantastic! It's one of our favorite beach recipes, we have them every year when we're in Grayton. Mix up a pitcher of margaritas or mojitos, and I'm in heaven....wish I was there!

Definitely some undercurrents to this thread.
BR's daughter's recipe is similar to mine.
One thing I've never ever had with my fish taco is cheese.
Killer Seafood in Mexico Beach makes some okay fish tacos, but I always have to tell them to leave off the cheese.

Maybe I'm living in the dark ages here in the Midwest, but the idea of fish and tacos together sounds disgusting to me! I've seen it on menus in the South and in Mexico, but I've never known anyone who's actually eaten them. Maybe it's a taste you have to acquire?:idontno: But then again, I can't stand the idea of sushi, raw oysters and I don't like seafood in my gumbo either. I love lobster, crablegs, tilapia, shrimp, etc. but I like them cooked in the traditional way(s).

On another note, different but still on the subject of food....I've been reading and hearing recently about a disgusting black market on horse meat! Apparently it's a delicacy in some countries - France, the Netherlands, Japan, Belgium. Horse are sometimes stolen and then sold for around $300 - $400 each; they're then shipped off to countries who regularly sell it in their butcher shops. One politician tearily described how two of his Tennessee Walking Horses had been stolen and when the perpitrators were found, they admitted selling them to a slaughterhouse. Another young girl described waking up on her 13th birthday to find her horse missing. Turns out a relative had stolen the horse overnight and sold it to a slaughterhouse for $325. Another man sold two of his horses to a slaughterhouse because they had bad legs, and he said "$325 each at least recoups some of my money".:bang: What a jerk! If a horse is in pain, etc., it should be put down humanely, not murdered! There is a group trying to get legislation to ban the slaughter of horses in this manner. Sorry for getting off on a tangent; I just read another article in todays St. Louis Post Dispatch and it got me riled up again!:pissed:

horse meat has always been consumed in many places outside the US, primarily Asia and Europe...

of course, the US has a cultural aversion to eating horse meat - the horse is an American icon and is a pet and friend of man. but still US slaughterhouses sell the meat to other countries....

I heard about the US House voting to ban the slaughter of horses for meat just last week... here is some info... http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1532672,00.html

I never knew we had slaughter houses for horses here. but I'm not at all surprised.

Take a good whitefish Bread it with a mix of corn meal and breadcrumbs. Fry them up. Corn tortillas heated in a pan. Chop cabbage and cilantro for toppings. I also add green salsa for some kick. Very easy recipe. good luck.
