okay my little fitness wannabees... here it is. and thanks for deciding on this thread name. After sharing our goals and strategies for fitness and weight reduction, we'll all be sowell on sowal!!!

Cork and I are doing at least one yoga/pilates class per week now. plus we bicycled the other day (almost killed me). and plan to do exercise on our own at home as well.

as far as diet and weight reduction, we haven't really gotten very far. I'm reading two current resources for motivation and just general info: Body for Life for Women (A Woman's plan for Physical and Mental Transformation) - Pamela Peeke, MD, and The Reality Diet (fight fat with fiber) - Schnur, MD. They are both really straightforward, no nonsense approaches to weight loss - and include a lot of info on weekly menus, exercise, etc.

I know that I will need a menu plan to follow in the first 3 months of my "transformation". If I have a reasonable menu to follow, then I don't mind shopping and cooking. Having it all planned out makes it easier for me, and it makes me eat things that I would otherwise avoid or not think about eating (it expands the culinary experience)...

What are your goals? I need to finish up some of my reading and then I plan to put my goals on paper, along with my plan to achieve them. I have also already started a food and exercise journal.

I'll be sharing some of this with you. I hope we can all share successes, questions, recipes, exercise tips, etc... hope to see you on here every day looking for motivation and at the same time giving support to all of us.. :D

Here is my approach. Stay away from refined sugars, white flours, and rice. Instead choose whole grains, veggies, meats, brown rice. I use the store-brand instant brown rice and I love it. It is so quick, easy and tasty. I do drink Diet Soda though. I know it is not the best thing to drink, but I have a hard time getting water down. I do drink it occasionaly though. I really need to incorporate exercise in my day though. That is the hardest thing for me. I got the eating under control, but really need motivation for the exercise part! I am going to get on a schedule and do it though. Good luck to everyone!!!!!!!

Back to topic.
My mother in law is in physical therapy after an extended illness. One thing they told her that stuck with me is the simple thought that your body responds to even the smallest stimulus. Just a small amount of exercise, if that's all you can muster, will still put the wheels in motion for change. In other words, don't forego exercise if you can't do a full half hour, just do what you can, even if it's only 5 minutes, and it's still beneficial, not a waste of time. Muscles will shrink if not used, but they won't if even a little bit of effort is made.

As my "penance" for watching Idol, ;-), I try to force myself to run in place or do sit ups during the commercials. I keep some 5 lb weights by the sofa too, in case I get inspired. Sometimes that's my only exercise for the week, but it's something...

I run 3-4 times a week. Yesterday I ran 3 1/2 miles but it varies daily. I would rather exercise than give up anything I love to eat OR drink.

Hope it's working...

I think several of us were right like this in our 20's. Add 10+ years and a couple of kiddos and you won't have any trouble gaining a couple of lbs. ;-)

I'm going to start gradual with the excercise. Mostly walking a mile or two in the evenings and bike riding with the Dylan. I'm not quite ready to start the dieting part. I hope to get some good menu ideas first!!! :D

I'm not sure that you will be allowed to even purchase a ticket, and I know they won't let you on the plane unless you sign a liposuction rider. There is a mandatory lipo rule for anyone attempting to enter LA at higher than 5% body fat. The good news is that all westbound flights are now equipped and staffed with experienced suction teams.

Relax weight-challenged tourists, this rule only applies to persons staying for more than 10 days, although a $50 per pound non-refundable deposit is required if you have not purchased a return ticket.

Well; you know what they say about marriage -putting a wedding ring on that finger is like pulling the rip cord on an inflatable raft. I have been 'married' for 10 years now and let's just say that there is a connection between the number of manatee sightings and the number of times I go to the beach.

http://www.surfsiderealty.net/images/manatee2n.jpg

My idea of exercise is to simulate dumbells by placing marachino cherries at each end of a toothpick. When I raise my martini glass to my lips it looks deceptively like arm curls.

Who knows, maybe one day I will be motivated to join you all in this fitness craze, and then I too can be that voluptuous 'gal' on the beach screaming "Trim-Spa Baby!" at all the gawking tourists.

The routines are designed to simulate terrain and situations encountered in actual bicycle rides, including hill climbs, sprints and interval training. Coasting downhill, however, is not simulated.

My goal is to get some exercise. I can't motivate to do it, and it's really my undoing. I'm not in good shape, but my eating habits are OK enough that I'd probably lose weight by just adding the exercise alone. I'd also like to finally open that exercise DVD jdarg talked me into getting.

1. To be able to wear all those clothes that I refuse to get rid of because "I'll wear them again, someday". Someday is here.
2. To be around to watch my grandchildren grow up.
3. To make better choices concerning food, fitness and habits.

Realities:

1. I'm a slug, what can I say? Absolutely HATE exercise!
2. I love good food? And by good, I mean butter, cheese(especially blue), and liquor.
3. I need prodding, coaxing and downright meaness to get me off my a$$!

So, there you have it in a nutshell. Lindabobhat, NOW gimme that peptalk and copy your tips over here. Tootsie and Cork, I'm so proud of you girls! Your a$$es will thank you later! SJ, well there are just no words for your contribution here:floor: Triple B and 30gAy: I like the way you think!

 My goal is to get my 30 back off. Had gained to 180lbs back in 98. I blame that on an extended stay in Cajun LA with homemade cajun cooking. I am sure I lost some after coming back home from Louisiana. Hated myself for gaining that much weight. I put myself on a 1200 calorie a day diet back in 2000 and walked every day and lost 50 pounds on my own. I had pretty much kept it off until about 9 months ago and now have gained 30 back. Makes me sick. I worked so hard at getting the weight off and kept it off for about 5 years. I do not eat bad now. I eat alot of salads and vegetables and love grilled and broiled chicken. These cereals like Grape Nut Flakes state that you can lose 10 lbs if you replace two meals with just a bowl of cereal with a 1/2 cup fresh fruit also. Special K I think is one also. Have a regular meal at lunch. I eat cereal for breakfast and alot of times for supper.

I like this one- this chick says "Scoop in your little tummy" about 20 different times. I play those sections alot!:floor: Actually, these types are good- fi you have an hour, do an hour's worth of segments (flex, abs, butt/thighs, arms, burn). Mostly I do 30 minutes worth.

Kathy Austin is annoying, but her Pilates videos are butt kickers. The newer DVD has a feature where you can listen to music while you work out instead of her awful breathy voice.

Anything with Mari Winsor is great too- she was Daisy Fuentes trainer (which lended zero cred for me, but just so you know) and her 20 minute Pilates is great.

well, I'm suppose to go to pilates/yoga class at 8:30, but today is screwed because my housekeeper is coming this morning (instead of tomorrow as scheduled), and I gotta get the toys picked up and spidey out of the house so they can do their magic. spent all day yesterday getting caught up in the house so someone else can deep clean it (this is why I don't like having a housekeeper - too much work involved). But, it will be worth it, and I can do my new DVD that I've had for about 6 months, this afternoon in the house.

DD - my goal today is simple. Drink a gallon of water!!! I love ice cold water but I never make an effort to drink more than 3 or 4 glasses a day. I think this is a simple but necessary part of weight loss. Once you make yourself do it for several days in a row it truly becomes a good habit.

 my housekeeper hasn't been here on a professional basis in quite some time--I keep paying her, but she always has something better to do--she's my daughter!!

Good goal!!! I don't care much for water, so have to force myself to drink it. You're right that it really helps with the weight loss. Have you tried those little Crystal Light flavors that you put in the bottled water? Does that defeat the purpose? The lemonade one is really good....but I'm sure lots of sugar. Nevermind....will try to follow your good example and choke down some plain.

you can put a smidgen of cranberry juice or something in it if you need to. but I think if you just drink plain ice water, it's easier and you can take it everywhere and pee all day long (but I do remember that your bladder adjusts and you can eventually drink gallons without peeing all day long).

Tree, this is the DVD Jenay recommended:

There's a whole series of the 10 Minute Solution tapes, but Jenay can tell you more about them.
P.S. I had to go find this to be able to tell you what it was. I'm hopeless.

DD and all:

this is my first real day of healthy eating and I'm excited:

Breakfast: lowfat vanilla yogurt with bran, oj, coffee, water

Lunch (with Cork and Too Far Tampa - loved meeting TFT) - small ceasar salad with shrimp, non-sweet iced tea. (I NEVER EVER order a salad when I go out to eat - but I did it today).

Dinner - hamburger patty over a bed of chopped spinach and tomatoes (another salad!!! OMG!!)

no snacks today - didn't have the time.

I tried upping my water intake all day, but didn't plan ahead enough to have adequate supply with me while in the car going here and there. but still managed to drink about 32 ounces. will do better tomorrow.

exercise? okay, I did only about 15 minutes of Iron Yoga - after finally unwrapping the DVD. the phone rang. I answered. end of story.

Yes yes yes gulls on the water drinking!!! It helps you metabolize better and get rid of fat faster, no joke. MOst of us (75% according to the latest reports) are chronically dehydrated because we don't drink enough plain water.

I have to say I wasn't a water drinker either but I made myself get into the habit. I bought Fiji water at the grocery--comes in that pretty little square bottle with the tropical flowers and palms on it. I kept the bottle and refill it with filtered water from the fridge dispenser and it's attractive enough that it doesn't feel like a pain in the butt to get the required daily amount of H2O. All you need to drink is 3 of those bottles a day (it holds 2 cups of water) and then with coffee, juice and milk during the day, you're all set.

I like those pretty bottles--you're right, it does make it easier. I have now added another 33.8 oz. to my earlier amount--so that makes about 96 oz. plus that big ole diet coke had some water in it too, i just know. And 2 cups coffee this morning--I forgot about those.

But, we've talked about how we will need to continue at least eating right as much as possible (and we're both going to be at our Moms houses, so this could be very hard).

Anyway, just letting you know that we'll be MIA but please carry on the Sowell thread!!!!!!! :D

I saw a report on TV recently that said the water intake recommendations we've all been taught aren't really accurate, so I tried to find the info online. Found several links all saying kind of the same thing--we simply need to replace the amount of water we lose, which varies from person to person. Info even came up on Snopes since it falls into the category of "urban legend," I guess. Just hoping to encourage those of us who feel  about having to drink so much water!

My plan for loosing weight:
1. Go to Italy and walk miles and miles around some of the most beautiful and historical cities in the world. Drink lots and lots of water...cauz it is HOT HOT HOT!
2. Exercise the eyes by feasting them on glorious scenes, exercise the nose by sniffing the most glorious aromas in the world, exercise the brain by overloading it with the most glorious sights in the world.
3. Exercise the arms by lifting camera over and over again to capture the amazing sights that are Italy.
4. Go to Greece and walk miles around the most lovely little towns with winding cobblestone streets. Take in glorious vistas (while sipping on low cal wine )
5. Exercise the arms by stretching out with euros in hand to make purchases!
6. Dine on Greek salad & Gyros (OK...not so low fat...but WHO CARES???? This is GREECE and no one gains weight here!)
7. Exercise the arms more by lifting camera over & over to take pictures of all the amazing architecture, vistas and scenery that is Greece.
8. Exercise the heart by filling it with love for the places you are experiencing.
9. Exercise the soul by realizing you are in the presence of, and are in the place that, is history, heart, human, humbling and heart wrenchingly HUGE!
10. Does having goose bumps qualify as exercise?
11. Exercise the arms and eyes by wiping tears of awe from your cheeks.

I saw this too.
I actually like plain water but not enough to carry it around, let alone pee all day long. I do think it's good to kind of cleanse your system or whatever.
A couple years ago the husband and I went on the South Beach diet together.
I lost 5 pounds and he lost 12.
Since then we both put it back.
It really was a pretty good diet except for the very beginning phase, where you can't have bread or potatoes.
For me, life is not worth living without the occasional wasabi mashed potatoes, and the daily bread.
I admire and salute the SoWallers, and will look to this thread for further inspiration.http://deephousepage.com/smilies/cheering.gif

About the drinking--I don't think the point of drinking plain water is to turn yourself into a human water balloon. That's not going to do anything but make a second home of your bathroom!! But if you do make a concerted effort to drink a bit more that you'd usually would, it holds off hunger a bit and it flushes out your body. And that's a good benefit to your health and fitness.

so true mermy. I used to drink tons of water every day, and it really made a difference in how I felt overall. I've read a lot about how most of us live in states of dehydration which causes a range of problems. I know when I don't drink sufficient water (but drinking plenty of coffee and other beverages), I have a non-stop dull headache, and I eat a lot more (feeling hungry when I am really thirsty)...

I'm drinking tons today!!! yipppeeee!!! thanks for your words of encouragement Mermaid and all.

Here is another good tip that I use alot. I have a George Forman grill that I use probably ever other night. I buy boneless chicken breasts and season them up. Grill them on the Foreman which is quick and so easy. Sometimes I will cut them up and put them on a big salad. Or I will cut them up and toss them with whole wheat pasta and Classico Alfredo Sauce (3g Carbs). I have discovered the steam in the bag veggies from Birds Eye. Broccoli/cauliflower/carrots or just the broccoli. You just toss the bag in the microwave and cook on high for about 5 or 6 minutes. They are wonderful as fresh to me. I will toss them with Balsamic Vinegar and Olive and add whatever spices you like. It is such quick and easy/healthy meal. The Forman makes great hamburger patties as well. I will grill them and eat with a veggie and brown rice. I bought some of the Citrus flavored diet Green Tea today. I am going to take it to work with me. I haven't tried it yet, but surely it is much better for me than the diet sodas I drink.....

Good luck all!

Wow, that was a lot of reading and catching up. No time for the YMCA tonight! I'll hit the exercycle later. I've been going to the Y for weight training and my fitness coach only recommends it every other day anyway. I also like to use the elliptical there.

Anyway just some general tips. I've posted a lot of this on other threads, but I'll put it all here as well. Most of the things I do are from articles I've read online and just made mental notes to try. If I had to read whole books, I'd never manage (reading whole threads on sowal.com is more my speed. I have such a short attention span and there aren't enough hours in the day!) So in no particular order, here's some food for thought (pun intended!)

1) Eat more and eat more often - but eat the right foods. Don't deprive yourself. Snack on fruits, veggies, whole grain flatbreads & chips, hummus, salsas, etc (just a few ideas.) I usually take over an hour to finish my breakfast. I start at home with a glass of OJ, then take a ziploc bag of whole grain cereal to work along with low fat yogurt. Wheat chex and frosted mini-wheats are my faves. And I just nosh on them at my desk with the yogurt while I work. About an hour later I have a small banana or apple. My lunches lately have been wraps - I usually cut them in half and don't eat them at the same time. I also bring carrot chips, low fat cottage cheese, pink grapefruit sections, etc. And I find myself eating parts of it every half hour or 45 mins. So I really never let myself get hungry. Don't know if it's true or not, but what I read is that eating smaller meals more often will cause your body to burn fat rather than muscle. But it seems to work well for me regardless of the science.

2) I buy into the water drinking - if nothing else, it helps make you feel more full. And it keeps your skin more healthy and hydrated and radiant (which means less wrinkles - how's that for a good reason to drink more water?)

3) Splurge at the grocery store on convenient, healthy products. Here's a
list of some I can't live without - some are kind of expensive, others are just handy to have around:

Tropicana OJ with fiber
Del Monte Sunfresh Pink Grapefruit Sections and Tropical Fruit Salad in glass jars (the latter is red and yellow papaya with pineapple - YUM!)
Flat-Out wraps (I buy the multi-grain that have 8 grams fiber, but there are other varieties with less fiber - lots of recipe ideas on their website: http://www.flatoutbread.com/movie.html
Canned diced tomatoes (plain, w/green chilies, w/garlic & olive oil, etc.)
Canned beans (black beans, kidney beans, garbanzo beans, cannelini beans)
Albacore tuna in water (in cans and in the little vacuum seal bags)
Barilla Plus Pasta - more recipe ideas on their website: http://www.barillaus.com/PLUS_Information.aspx
Minute Brand or Success Brown Rice
Breakstone Lowfat Cottage Cheese in 4-packs
Yoplait Light & Fit & Creamy Yogurt (the low fat, artificially sweetened alternative to their custard style yogurt)
Premade Hummus (various brands)
Emeril's Vinaigrette Salad Dressings (Balsamic, Dijon and Italian - all have only 3 fat grams per servings)
Bagged Salads
Carrot Chips (the ridged slices which for some reason intrigue me more than the baby carrots)
Snyder's Multigrain Tortilla Chips
Tostitos Natural Blue Corn Restaurant Style Tortilla Chips
"Ak-mak" - 100% whole wheat stone ground sesame crackers
Fresh herbs in the tube in the produce section
Grape Nuts Trail Mix Crunch Cereal
Green Giant Select Frozen Veggies in the box (and those new Birds-Eye ones you can cook in the bag that kathydwells mentioned!)
Individually frozen fish filets
Prepackaged sliced turkey, roast beef and FAT FREE HAM  in the resealable plastic containers (they keep fresh longer than the meat you can buy in the deli - just works better for me)

I could go on and on - but if you keep these types of things around in your fridge and pantry it's pretty easy to throw a healthy meal together.

4) Do whatever physical activity you like and works best for you (whether that's yoga, spinning, cardio machines, weight training or just chasing after your kids & pets or walking on the beach. It's all good.)

That's all I have time for right now 'cause now I'm hungry and I need to fix dinner (and a healthy layered Salad Nicoise for a potluck baby shower at work tomorrow!)

Those are all great suggestions. Making things convenient seems to be the key to healthier eating habits. You are so right LBH about eating more often. As we age food deprivation is not the answer, all that does is slow the metabolism even more.

The convenience factor is what does it for me! And yes, the metabolism - that's exactly what I was trying to refer to (thanks - apparently all this healthy eating is not helping my old brain cells..... :idontno: )

At one point, I was so not used to eating fat, that it made me sick when I did-- but...I've found that I just flat don't like some stuff I used to like, like carrots. Hate em! Used to like em! And, although I eat chicken because it's available, I really don't care for it much any more. Give me a big ole steak any day. But, I will persevere! You go girl - we're all here for you! By the way, my favorite thing to order when I'm eating out is a petite filet mignon (an indulgence at 6 oz.) And I'm with you - I'd rather eat steak any day over chicken (I will only order a grilled chicken breast at a restaurant if I can't find anything else more suitable.) But I have to admit, I'm really starting to love fish.

Thanks, you're a peach! I like fish too, but not so much if I cook it at home--unless it's grilled. Now, that's some pretty good stuff--if it's fresh--which is difficult to find here--it's usually frozen. Prefer shrimp, crab, really, over fish.

Tootsie, that means the yoga is working for you!! I bet you got that nice compliment because you have improved your muscle tone = clothing fits better and feels looser.

When the weather turns cold again here in the Midwest and I can't get outside to exercise, I'm taking up yoga. I've followed it sporadically on Fit TV, and it's a fantastic workout. I like the pace much better than aerobics, too. I like yoga's peacefullness. I'm too old to be bouncing up, down, and around like a jumping bean...no aerobics for me, thank you very much. Give me slow and calm and steady.

11. Exercise the arms and eyes by wiping tears of awe from your cheeks.

this is really great. and true! and poetic. I can tell your trip was life-changing...

I can have this once every 3 months, but I really need to do the brocccoli and cheese on potato - I love it this way too. (small potato). I was listening to a nutrition show on NPR the other day and the guy was talking about how a regular potato is just not nutritious enough to ever eat because of it converts to sugar immediately and just doesn't do anything good for you. Sweet potatoes are nutritious and not as starchy.

Okay, skinny young'uns, I am going to share with you the experience that only a 56-year old woman who has seen/read/experienced/paid for it all can.

(1) If you don't want to be overweight, don't allow yourself to get there to begin with. Once created, those fat cells will do anything to survive and even resurrect themselves. They do this at night, even if you sleep in undies.

(2) Exercise on a regular basis is imperative. You have to combine aerobic exercise with free-weights that will keep your muscle mass up there. Muscle burns calories far more efficiently than fat mass will. Don't leave out weights or workouts on the machines. If you lose a lot of weight without tending to your muscle mass, you are damaging vital organs...such as your most important muscle, the heart.

(3) Eat wisely and control portion size regularly. Try eating five small meals each day instead of three squares, substituting some protein (string cheese or tuna is good) for that muffin or cookie as a snack. Eat breakfast. Drink three glasses of skim milk daily, because now we know that women who do this can reduce their mid-body fat considerably. Cut your portion size in half and never eat the entire plate of food when you go out to a restaurant, unless it's an appetizer portion. Forget about the doggie bag being a "no-no," because you paid for it to begin with and you don't want to be paying for it in your jeans tomorrow. Cut back on the sweets intake and limit fried foods. Give up something like French fries, except on very rare occasions. Whine and brag about giving it up so that you feel like Joan of Arc and have declared yourself with all your friends for future outings.

(4) Consider your alcohol intake as calories, too. For example, those two glasses of wine were probably at least four on the calorie charts. This is because a glass on the charts is usually 4 ounces and lots of places are pouring 8 ounces. Every alcoholic I know tells you they have two glasses of wine with dinner. Uh, yeah...two glasses every half hour. What...refills don't count? Don't kid yourself. And don't even get me started on the beer thing.

(5) Keep a food diary. This is amazing, because if you have to write down those two fistsfuls of M&Ms, you're more likely to release them back into that bag or other container. And write down why you wanted to eat each item, too. Be totally irreverent about the last thing, to the point of grossness.

(6) Finally, don't diet. Adopt a sensible eating plan that you can follow for life and cheat on now and again without giving it all up. Life is short. Think of all those poor people on The Titanic who said "no" to dessert. And you don't want to be that lady who loses the same 10 lbs. every year and gains back 15 lbs. She is not a good role model and boring, to boot!

Most importantly, do not read too many fashion magazines or accept the notion that you cannot be beautiful if you're not a size zero to four. These are not natural sizes for grown-up women, and you know it in your heart. Remember...you are not what you weigh. Grow up and improve yourself in ways that will take you through your life. Read, garden, travel, volunteer, paint, play music, write, tell good jokes, teach a child something lovely, etc. Any of these will beat out looking like a chicken wing in Juicies.

I am off to my fav retreat next week, The Canyon Ranch in Tucson. Best food I've ever had, and the healthiest. They always have great up-to-date ideas about healthy foods and weight maintenance (regardless of your size). I will share the info with you when I return. :D

Ooooh, I saw that about TdeF winner Floyd Landis testing positive. I think he's innocent. This is what I pulled up from a news article on the web:

"Landis had astonished the cycling world by bouncing back to win the 17th stage, driving himself to the point of collapse despite the constant pain he suffers from a hip condition. Some experts suggest that the positive test may have been the result of the extraordinary stresses that his body experienced during that epic ride."

It seems totally out of character for Landis to be involved in blood doping. The next results will show the truth!

Now back to our regular programming. ;-)

Here's your sign.

I was in Wal-Mart buying a large bag of Purina for my Labrador Retriever and was in line to check out.

A woman behind me asked if I had a dog.

I just couldn't help myself, and on impulse, I told her that no, I was starting The Purina Diet again, although I probably shouldn't because I'd ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms.

I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that it works is to load your pants pockets with Purina nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry & that the food is nutritionally complete so I was going to try it again.

I have to mention here that practically everyone in the line was by now enthralled with my story, particularly a tall guy behind her.

Horrified, she asked if I'd been poisoned and was that why I was in the hospital.

I said no. . . . . I'd been sitting in the street licking my balls and a car hit me.

I thought the tall guy was going to have to be carried out the door.

It seems totally out of character for Landis to be involved in blood doping. The next results will show the truth!

Now back to our regular programming. ;-)
Way off subject...is he amish? his mother is or she was wearing a yammika?

On subject...Kfunn tried a spinning class for the 4th day in a row. I ended up on a mat with a muscular Puerto Rican stretching me out since I was cramping so bad. Can't complain. ;-) But took the day off after 10 minutes of spinning with craps in my legs...

Landis is an ex-Mennonite. He started riding his bike to escape his upbringing, in a way. He wasn't cut out for the simple life. Although he's on good terms with family now. His mother wears one of those bonnet thingies that the Mennonite (like Amish but not so techno-phobe as them) women wear. They're really ugly!! There's a big Amish community in northern Indiana and they come to Indy on the farmers market days and their clothing is atrocious. Dowdy dowdy dowdy. At least they make good pies and other goodies, but you can tell they don't spend the profits at the local Saks.

Friday Goals:
Eat Breakfast - Cereal
Drink Coffee - lot's of it
It's Friday, my free day to eat...not exactly healthy
Try to get up and walk around the building some instead sitting her in front of this computer all day.

Tonight - Play poker and drink lot's of beer. Totally screwing up everything else I did good today.

Tomorrow - get back on track. ;-)

I just thought of something else that perhaps would be of help to some of you. I used this for quite awhile and will probably go back to it. It is called E-mealz. Here is the link: http://www.e-mealz.com/Let someone else plan your meals, and make you a grocery list for $5 a month. They have Low-Carb, Low-Fat, Meal Plans, for two. They use Publix, Kroger, Walmart, or anystore. Go to the website for more information. I highly recommend this!!!!

Linda: this is great. i saw it and meant to print it at work, since my (&$#*ing printer at home is on the fritz. I did however, print out your post and took it to the store with me yesterday. I was doing so good until I got a call from my (&%ing ex DIL that she needed me to pick up the kids. It was 5:55 and the day care closes at six and I've got half a basket of groceries and the day care is a 20 minute drive in traffic from me! Well, you can just imagine what I said, but couldn't stand to think of those precious babies left there waiting, so I quickly aborted my shopping trip, checked out what I did have and raced to the car, only to have her call back and say, "nevermind"..........:bang: I tell you, I'd like to slap her. Oh, sorry, back to topic now...
Anyhoo, I used your suggestions and got a lot of the stuff you listed. I also got these little chocolate "tea biscuits" in the international foods that only have one gram of fat for two. now, they are pretty little, but they are just the right thing to take the edge off and not too sweet. sorta like my little treat. made some wraps (i think i posted about these) and they were delish! tonight it's lean hamburger patties with mushrooms, salad and some of those frozen steamed veggies. thanks for all your support and suggestions!!:clap_1:

Water.
Find a good cheap gym.
Walk.
Eat healthy.

Did pretty good yesterday. The water thing is still lacking, but will continue to work on it. Linda has helped so much with her suggestions!
Best of all, against my own goal of not weighing yesterday, I did anyway, and I'm down 3 lbs!. I'm thinking I will weigh every day.

Accomplished all goals today except for the gym part--just flat ran out of time. Linda, I'll look into the Y, thanks! I did, however, make macaroni and cheese for Jackson and yes, I did eat three (ok, four) bites. It was sheer heaven! Got a new "choppy" haircut, and natural color. It really looked good until I walked and was drenched with sweat! Not an attractive look! Just put Jackson to bed, but he's not asleep--he tries to trick me into thinking he is! Sooo......tomorrow's a new day. Some new goals/some the same. Film at 11.

Yes you are DD! I'm very proud of you. Don't worry about the mac & cheese - a few bites is nothing to feel guilty about. It's exactly what I mean when I say not to deprive yourself. I often "sneak" a few bites of something I know I shouldn't eat. Today I had a few of my son's french fries and some days I have a few bites of ice cream. And as far as the exercise is concerned, sounds like a few hours with your grandson qualifies!

Probably nobody wants to hear THIS story, but about a year and a half ago..........I went on Atkins (weighed about 145 at the time) , wanted to lose about 25 lbs.........have battled with my weight since having children, I lost the 25 lbs over about an 8 mth time period, went off Atkins, started trying to eat healthy, then over the course of the next 4-5 mths, 20 more dropped off............even during Christmas, which I ate every and anything in sight:floor: . NOW for the 1st time in my life I think I am TOO thin, have been and had tests done etc. to make sure there wasn't anything medically wrong with me...........it's just WEIRD, since I have sturggled with my weight for 20 plus years, now BOOM..............I'm TOO thin now (especially for my age) Oh well.........but i know I'm not in shape, I need to excercise more, and maybe that will put some muscle weight on.

Ok, but just tell me this first....was it sweet tea??? :floor: I think I miss that the most!

All right....let's see....

Goals for today:

Walk---farther than normal since it's Sunday and I have more time.
Water--Flush out all the bad stuff (it was that mac and cheese for me)
Wash--the car, by hand, (will have to wait til after 6 though because of water restrictions--but surely it will burn lots of cals.)
Eat only really healthy stuff and ignore that left over mac and cheese :floor: (or pizza in your case--:D )

Sweet blueberry tea- but with Splenda. I can't drink real sugar sweet tea much anymore- I can almost feel my teeth rotting away.

I am shoveling out Will's room today, so that should burn a few calories in aggravation and stress alone!

Dinner: :bang: mr. dd just had to have mexican..uh, hispanic uh, latino no....it was mexican. anyway i had a fajita salad with beef fajita strips, salsa, and low fat thousand island. I coulda made something at home, but that's what he wanted. But, I guess it's better than the enchiladas I would normally have ordered. I did eat about 6 chips---usually can eat a whole basket!

Didn't wash the car. Just too freakin' hot!

Oh, DD!!! you are making progress and this is wonderful. I am still in Bham and not doing very well, sorry to report. The only thing I've managed to do here is to drink my water and eat reasonable portions (though I've eaten everything I shouldn't). no exercise except power shopping. will be home tomorrow, Allifunn will be waiting for me, and I'll ask her to make me salads and fish every day!

So glad you are all continuing with the motivation and progress here! see ya tomorrow... over and out...

I've been horrible lately on the diet front. Gained 5 pounds since the cruise! That's not supposed to happen!
Things have been stressful lately around here, very much, and I've been eating shameless amounts of comfort food. I've also gone to 3 birthday parties in the last two weeks. (Did I mention that I always eat birthday cake when it comes around, regardless? And I'll eat a big piece, in honor of their birthday, of course! ;-))

I'll try to get back on the program.

Oh, I did. It was so great, thanks for asking. I really wasn't expecting to be as impressed as I was, but those Royal Caribbean people have it going on in every way. It was most funn because of the large family group we had--all three generations and everyone smiling. I'm just glad we went the week we did...the same boat, same cruise as ours just had another one of those viral outbreaks, two weeks later. Yipe.

Daily report:

Breakfast: Yogurt
Snack: animal crackers
Lunch: grilled chicken sandwich on wheat...tea with splenda
snack: mandarin oranges, two tea biscuits
dinner: some frozen salmon crap :puke: that mr. dd bought a while back, brown rice, mixed veg.

did well with water consumption
about to take a walk with Maggie.

Weighed: 5 lbs. down! Amazing...
Note to self: That left over mac and cheese is still in the fridge...better throw it away, cuz I'm gonna be lookin' for somethin' after that salmon crap!
