SoWal Beaches Receive Blue Wave Certification
For the sixth year in a row, SoWal Beaches have been awarded Blue Wave Certification by the Clean Beaches Council. All 14 beach communities have been certified by the Blue Wave Campaign. In fact, SoWal is the only destination in the nation to have all 26 miles of beaches certified. In order to receive the certification, beach communities must meet the program’s criteria for water quality, beach and inter-tidal conditions, hazards, services, habitat conservation, public info/education, and erosion management.
When you go to the beach and see that Blue Wave flag waving in the wind, know that our communities’ efforts taking place now are contributing to healthy, clean beaches for generations to come.

Find it harder to convince people it's not OK to leave their junk on the beach.

Huh?
If people leave their plastic junk and trash all over our beaches and we STILL win recognition for "healthy and clean beaches" they may rationalize that what they're doing is OK. (Hint: It isn't)

I agree with you Shelly. It still does not take away from the FACT we Received a Blue Wave Certification for our beaches. It helps keep us all aware of our beaches. We help remind people to remove their junk and trash because we want to keep it a Blue Wave Beach. I guess it is really how you look at things.

...and a big thank you for all the caring people who help keep our beaches clean by remembering to take out more than they bring in. Bobby, a special thanks to you for encouraging and leading those kids in a special effort to clean the beaches. ;-)
I would also like to give thanks to those of you who have walked along our roadsides collecting trash!
Receiving the Blue Wave Certification takes a community effort, and I am not refering to just the people who live here. Thanks to all of the second home owners and tourists who make a valid effort to protect our beaches and community.

People feel the need to remove litter from the beach because the county won't get it unless it's in their bags at the walkovers. Can't the Sheriff's Office use prisioners for beach cleanup? No jumpsuits just thongs so we could see those nice Tatty Tats. Hurrah for the Certification, glad they got it done before Regional dumped 15000 gallons of sewage into the canal leading to western lake. Sweet smell of our success here. By the way was some of the TP in that spill come from over or under the roll?
