In the Atlantic off of the South Carolina and North Carolina coasts. Most of the models currently bring it into the states. Don't think it will have time to develop very much.

Approximately 1200 miles east of the Leeward Islands. It has a long way to go but model tracks are up for it.

:idontno: Just heard on the news gas prices may be nearing $4.00 a gallon due to hurricane in the gulf! Has this #96 turned into a hurricane??? Checked out the tropic watch on here the other day. Haven't heard that much on the weather channel either. Looked at their hurricane central and it showed Bud and Carlotta in the Pacific but that is all I saw mentioned! Don't know what they were talking about then.

No hurricane in the gulf - I think what you heard is that if there is a hurricane in the gulf prices will rise to $4.00.
Invest 96 is still in the Atlantic and not formed yet.

From Jeff Masters' Wunderblog @ wunderground.com:
"An upper-level low is spinning over the central Gulf of Mexico, but this low is not expected to develop, due to high wind shear. None of the major computer models are forecasting any tropical storm formation in the Atlantic for the next six days. Wind shear is forecast to remain high over most of the tropical Atlantic this week, then gradually decrease for the remainder of the month. "
:clap_1: Happy happy :clap_1: For July anyway.

You can really see the outline of the upper level low in satelite images today. If it sinks to the surface it could get interesting.

Stupid Question - Why do they call this invest 96???

I am fairly sure that 96 refers to the number of the storm for the year in the Atlantic and "invest" simply means that it is a storm which they are investigating for the potential to become a Tropical Depression.

That is correct, it is an area under investigation for potential tropical development. These numbers are reused during the hurricane season. Hopefully you wont see an invest 97 again this year.
