I have some humble pie to eat. When invited, I cannot say that I was too excited about attending last night's fete at Alys Beach. I have had a brief tour and love the architecture and like what they are trying to do with the development. All of the staff whom I have met, most whom I already know, are delightful cups of tea. I knew they would be funn and because of them, I was less reluctant to attend. In fact, I was going mostly in support of them. What I found when I arrived was very impressive, unlike anything else from the western border of Florida to ... I don't know where, but a long way. Alys Beach will be THE place to be. I look forward to seeing it come out of the ground. Seeing one of our local photographers there, I thought I would do all of the wonderful photographic opportunities more justiss by leaving my camera in my pocket. I know I couldn't capture that which I wanted to capture. Thanks to Abe Drinkin et al for twisting my arm, and thanks to all of you resonsible for hosting a great party. :D

Thank you to Alys Beach for putting on such a grande event. All involved, are to be commended. Karen, Niki Andre (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=85962292) and her band were moving. Here is a link to last night's videos on YouTube video 2, (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NrIw4_AkoQw) Video 3 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdv9NAVDkIA)-- more on the way. Sorryf for the delay between audio and video -- I hate that. John R, nicely done :clap_1:. I am impressed as much as I thought I would be. Christian, Snooky, Kendall, Kelly, Lauren, et al, OUTSTANDING!!! :clap_1: Merrianne and Erik, you have the architectural skills!!! Your house impressed me the most. I want it on my lot!

I think Jason Comer and EBSCO, Inc are very lucky to have such wonderful people working with them. Without you guys, I wonder if Alys Beach would be Alys Beach.

I also attended last night's fete; Seaside Rep was heavily involved, thanks to all the folks at Alys Beach understanding the importance of promoting the arts in ANY community, however small and new it might be. I didn't get to stay for the concert, but the evening I experienced was completely magical.

Oh Miss Kitty,
I thought of you when we were at Alys Beach a couple weeks ago 'cause I know you  it. We had breakfast and lunch at the Fonville Press. We love John , he was our neighbor in Old Seagrove. I almost cried when I saw his mailbox inside the Press. I never knew his history only that he was a wonderful story teller!

They treat you so nice :welcome: ---just like one could afford a place there. If I win the lotto I am definitely buying!!! :floor:
Guess after location, location, location is atmosphere, atmosphere , atmosphere. Not to mention southern hospitality!

Count me in as a convert. I have always thought it was pretty nice and cool but the attention to detail in everything associated with Alys Beach is very impressive. This will be "the" place on the gulf coast. And by the way, Nikki Andre was incredible.

I had a similar opinion as yours, SJ, and it was only that Miss Kitty pursuaded Merman and me to take a look (a tire-kicking look, unfortunately!) that we realised what a good town Alys Beach is. Its design is unique on 30-A, which is very refreshing, and the quality of design and construction is nothing short of marvelous. And despite that fact that I'm a gull who loves color everywhere, the neutrals of Alys Beach are very soothing. I actually liked all that blinding white once I was there.

And you owe ME an apology. ;-) My first post on this board was pro-Alys Beach and you had a negative thing or two to say about my comments and about me. You almost scared me away for good, but I continued to defend Alys Beach and you've finally come around! I'm just satisfied that I can say, "I told you so!"

There are a few people on this board who can finally come forward and admit that they are lucky Alys Beach property owners. They've been scared because there has been a lot of negativity toward Alys Beach. I think everyone is finally seeing Alys Beach for what it is!

I agree that Alys Beach is special. I go to Fonville Press regularly when I'm in SoWal. I also agree that it's not only the architecture and attention to detail, but because of some of the people who work there and are thoughtfully creating a special environment for people who live or visit there (and some are posters on this board...). A place can look very nice/expensive and feel cold. Another place can look very nice/expensive and feel warm and inviting. Alys is the latter. Maybe the founders' dream of reflecting the good will of their grandmother Alys will come to be!

I fell in love with the place the first time I walked through there. It has a "feel" that is unduplicated by any other development in the area. Granted, I'm not wild about the non-native palms they planted along 30-A (although they are pretty.

Certainly, we could never afford property there, but if we were to buy at any of the new developments, this would be my first choice. There is something special about this place.

SJ: this is one of the sweetest and most sincere posts I have ever read!!! We had a lot of fun planning this party and loved how well attended it was and it is so rewarding to have so many people comment on how beautiful they find Alys to be!!! Many of us are immersed in the daily minutiae and it is always wonderful to be able to step back and admire the collaborative work of many talented people working on this project.

It was good seeing you and many others - and as to the talented SoWal photographer who was taking pictures.....cannot WAIT to see those!

SJ you have expressed feelings which are shared by others about the people involved in the development of Alys Beach. My first meeting with the sales group was in June 2004 and I am one of the fortunate people to be an owner of one of the first 16 homes. The enthusiasm of the sales group, town architects, and developer is contagious! From my first night sleeping on the floor ( with my dog ) waiting for the furniture delivery, to each next visit, I'm always excited to be there. It was faith and trust in this group of talented individuals that gave us the courage to take the leap to be owners!
Careful planning goes into each design and project. The Caliza pool and The Village took months ( maybe a year ?? ) before final drawings were decided.
I enjoy the "courtyard living" and my family looks forward to many happy gatherings at Alys Beach.
It is true though, I do need sunglasses in the morning when I walk out my back door. But I know, the parking court will only be better with time as more landscaping is added.

jfrances, I hear you about the sunglasses in the daylight hours. That is still a complaint of mine, but seeing the beautiful Moon from each courtyard helps balance the bright sun reflecting on white during the day. Night time is my time at Alys Beach. Perhaps the daytime during the winter will be nice and help keep away the winter blues.

As much as I love the design and concept of the place, it IS bright. I wonder why they didn't just go a shade darker from stark, bright white.
