I believe this mess was left by some SoWallers according to the "How do you spell Funn?" shirt one of them was wearing. Note of Warning! If you don't take your stuff off the beach tomorrow, I will post your photo here. If you don't believe me, I have two words for you -- pink hat.

is that photo from this morning? that sure is a whole load of crap. i wonder how many people it supports? intriguing(sp?) why some people think it's ok to leave stuff around like that. looks like a prime target for vandalism, then if it got vandalized, it would probably be left as garbage for someone else to pick up. weak.

This photo was taken yesterday at sunset, but I have a free lunch that says it is there right now, along with a bunch of other piles just like it.

Heehee, someone from the Other Bored was saying "there's this guy who hides in the dunes and takes your pic" if you do something wrong. "Ye Old Dune Dude" they called you. (But that was probably just one of you rascals from the Sowal Invasion.)

Ok, I sure hope they do. My goodness, if it was a SoWaller...do they not read what we write about all that SH** being left on the beach? I am so dissappointed. :(

There's something about this photo I just don't get. All that stuff is piled up like they mean to leave it overnight. But they have tiki torches installed, which leads me to believe they're planning on coming back in the nighttime. I mean, why would you use a tiki torch any other time but night? But on the other hand, why would you pile your stuff up like that if you were going to use it soon? This is all too convoluted for me. Smiling JOe, what's going on with that set-up today?

Do you think someone dumped their stuff there to try to "save" a good spot? I know people do that around here the night before a parade. They stake out a location and actually place their chairs and blankets along the parade route. It's not a great thing to do and looks messy but the city allows this for these special occasions. Maybe that's what's going on here? Who knows.

Smiling JOe, what's going on with that set-up today?According to my secret agent, who will post pictures later this weekend, all of that crap and more was still there at the wee hours of this morning. Tiki torches, with citronella, can be used in the daytime to help keep away flies. Or they could have been coming back out at night to party some more, but I guarantee you that they didn't set up the hammock and the tent again at night. According to my secret agent, there were about 11 unattended tents still set up this morning from yesterday.

Maybe people are so uncomfortable with change that they have some primitive ways of keeping some things constant.

I figgured you for a fan of camping.I am, and when I do, I sleep in the tent rather than setting it up somewhere I will not be. ;-)
:(
A problem with this is that people see tents and crap left and follow by doing it themselves. Then you end up with several groups doing this and they think it must be OK.
.
Yes Smiling JOe, it is quite interesting what passes as acceptable here in the states. It seems to be the norm on the beach that people are leaving their equipment overnight or possibly all weekend. I've never seen that back home. We follow the "Leave it as you found it" doctrine. It was quite nice running into you and Mr. Drinkin the other evening. The waitress at Shades was very pleasant and efficient.

SJ, you should see the beach at our 'secret spot' down the end of Lakewood. We went in the afternoon 7/2 and I watched the 'skins' come off of tents with frames left standing while chairs, umbrellas, toys, etc were left for the next day. Sure enough, we hit the beach at about 10AM the next day, and most of the stuff was still there. One lady even seemed to have a rack built just for this purpose that locked down her chairs and unbrella! I was coveting a nice heavy beach unbrella and vowed to return and steal it under cover of darkness, but I got the amotivational syndrome after a few drinks. Don't let the sun set on your beachwares folks!

When I was down last week some folks from Tennessee renting a condo below us left their things out...then the stash was tagged by the Sea Turtle Watch Group for several nights in a row, and then to top it all off, they ripped the tags off and threw them on the beach  !
