I am not sure when Mermaid will be able to post while she is here, so I will post this funn news for her. Today, Mermaid, Merman and I went kayaking and saw two very large Sea Turtles not far from the beach in Grayton. It was really cool. At first, I thought it was some dark sand on the bottom, then, I went back and looked more closely at the fish hovering around it and noticed it had a tail, fins and head. Sea Turtles Runnin'! (as Sueshore would say). We also saw a small Black Tip Shark hanging out maybe 20 meters off the beach in front of the State Park. It was really cool.
We also saw a gaggle of SoWallers at the boat ramp on Western Lake. ;-)
Hurray! I am so glad for you guys!

jack rudloe's in panacea has a bunch of them that are in rehab from eating hooks
sea turtles will bite your fingers off so just look
Aquatic
How do they help the turtles with the hooks?
Do they have to operate or what?
The ones we saw in Hawaii were so cool.
I hope I get to see a live one here sometime.

Yesterday was my first Sea Turtle sighting. I spoke with friend who has a boat and he says that he has been seeing many SeaTurtles and fish in the mornings.

Is this a good sign for the turtles? I hope so.

sea turtles can get caught, usually in the flipper or tail or mouth
stainless hooks never dissolve, they must be cut out, and their use is forbidden by law near sea turtles (whatever good that does - nobody goes fishing for sea turtles, they get caught while fishing for something else)
i know capt anderson has reported sick or injured sea turtles in pc pass during his shell island/dolphin cruise, i heard him on the boat radio one time while we were down there

from north carolina, but the same thing - "Curtis Tyndall was tending to his flounder nets when he came across a sea turtle in distress. He could see a large stainless steel hook, the type used for shark fishing, piercing her tongue and imbedded into the mouth. Curtis picked the large turtle out of the water and placed into his boat. The turtle was then corralled by two coolers. Weighting the coolers and guarding the sea turtle were Curtis's daughter Caitlin and her friend Matthew. Together they named this turtle Crush.
Curtis phoned his wife, who then made arrangements with the KBSTRRC for transportation. Curtis went all the way, boating the turtle in and then driving her in his truck for eventual hand-off to our staff.
When asked what prompted him to help he said "That's just the way I am. I could see that hook wasn't going anywhere."
Thanks Curtis.
The hook was removed."
