Please remember to put on your thinking caps when driving to and near the beach. I just saw the results of a crash on my way home. Let your vacation begin when you get in your car to drive to the beach. Relax. Breathe. Take another deep breath. Be aware! Have a safe and memorable Memorial Day weekend. If you are going to drink, find a sober driver to drive if you must get in a car. :D

SJ, where was the crash? I heard the sirens. Although traffic seems to be lighter than usual for a holiday weekend, there still seem to be people distracted by phones, drinking, speeding, etc.

Thanks for the reminder, SJ. I think the issue of safe driving is very important, especially as 30A gets busier. I think the taxi services now on 30A and designated drivers will do us all a great favor in keeping SoWal a safe and peaceful place to be with families and friends. It's good that we look out for each other and keep each other safe!

Traffic was high in Destin this AM. I passed 8 police on 98 between sandestin and 331.

Yep - they are out.

I have seen people pulled the past two mornings on Chat Holley as well.

Merman and I are riding our bicycles to the track on Sunday for the 500. On the back roads so we miss all the drunken party people. Roads aren't too safe in some parts of Indy on Memorial Day weekend!

Reminds me of the unlucky time my trip coincided with the release of the hounds after the Talladega 500. Drunken Waltrip wannabees in pick up trucks passing traffic in the medians and emergency lanes on Interstate sixty-get-out-of-the-way.

There was a wreck with lots of activity this evening on 395 in front of Seagrove Market. We all had to cut over through Holly St to get to 30A. There was a jeep involved and not sure what else.... hope and pray no one was seriously injured but there were quite a few emergency personnel on the scene.

hey! get-out-of-the-way is *my* line, mister! :floor: the reason is i had a 8,000+ pound (4 tons!) load on the trailer to make stopping quickly nigh impossible

good morning everybody!

Make sure you're very careful and patient if you're going through Atlanta on Monday. At 2:45 yesterday afternoon the traffic was a parking lot from the toll booth at GA 400 all the way past the airport, and that's without accidents. It took me 2 hours, 45 minutes to get home from the 285/400 intersection - normally that's at most a 1-1/2 hour drive. Not to mention that people were driving recklessly and tailgating like mad, resulting in a multi-car pileup northbound on the connector at 10th Street.

Not much police presence on the road - that surprised me.

An additional FYI - for the few of you who do not already wear your seatbelt, the state troopers have been running ads on TV in the last week, noting that the TV ad is your warning. Troopers are writing tickets.

roads are full of idiots, big lake is full of complete idiots, resturants are full of domestically challenged idiots

just not worth going outside, really, so we're staying home for the next two days

i downloaded some old e-books including 'the radiance pool' for free off the gutenburg site and installed microsoft reader for some quality, if snoozy, spoken word entertainment

the smoker is full of pig bottoms

and there's some radishes ready in the garden

maybe it will even rain!

Mermaid: Ditto that! I lived in Speedway for a year in 2000 and we just watched the whole thing on the big screen at Union Jack's. Left right after the checker and missed the whole traffic jam. Plus we had cold beer, food, AC, and a waiter. All for less than the price of a ticket.
