Hello! We will be making our first trip to the area May 1st. :clap_1: :clap_1: Looking for information from locals on great things to see and do while we are there. What's the weather forecast look like? We will be camping in a tent. Weather.com makes it seem like it will be gloomy first part of the week. Any comments on things to do when the beach is rained out? We're staying at Grayton Beach but willing to drive about 50 miles to sight see and visit other beaches.

Eat fresh seafood, drink, and have great sex while listening to the beach sounds. Walk on the beach in the rain. Swim in the Gulf - you'll get wet in the Gulf, so why should the rain stop you?

In addition to Beach Runner's tried and true (and proven excellent ;-) ) suggestions, here is a bit of reading for you:

The Air Armnament Museum on FL-85 just north of Ft. Walton Beach can be interesting to walk around in, though most of the really cool planes are outdoors.
If you're willing to go a little bit further, the Naval Air Museum at NAS Pensacola has an IMAX theater and more planes. Pensacola also has a small art museum that gets some cool exhibitions in there, and a historic museum village area.

It has to be great when that's what you think about after, the "great" part, not the part where your bottom was all scratched up by the sand. ;-)
Pay no attention to weather forecasts that are more than 24 hours out.
A bad day at the beach is better than . . . .

I think if my username was Dunkin Donut then I would surely find my way to the Donut Hole II on a rainy morning for a double chocolate doughnut. :D
West end of 30A, then turn west on 98 as if headed to Destin for about 1 mile.
Great place for a donut fix.
Oh, and we did drive to Pensacola one rainy day and toured the air museum. It was worth the drive. Lots indoors.

:welcome: If the place you're staying in has a porch, it's so nice to sit on the porch while it's raining around you. Hot weather and rain is also nice for beach walks, though not if there's lightening. If it was raining, i'd find a retaurant with a nice view and watch the rain while eating. I'd visit the galleries and shops in the area. I'd look at the thread on where to find nice shells and go to those places if the drive didn't bother me (though shells are never guaranteed of course).
Who's going? Just adults? Kids, too?

Well thanks for all the info. It's two of us going and we are boring older people. Walking on the beach is about as wild as it's going to get

The Naval Air Station in P'cola is a must. It's awesome.
