A few clouds, but no rain in Gulf County, and we could use it.
OTOH
We're going to the air show at Tyndall today, and I am really looking forward to seeing it.

We will have thunder of a different sort here today- it is Thunder Over Louisville today- the largest fireworks show in the USA! This is how the Kentucky Derby Festival kicks off- the next 2 weeks are filled with Derby Festival events. Also an airshow - we get the Blue Angels this year. One of the local DJ's went up with them this week and threw up.

From the website---

"Staging the pyrotechnic spectacular of Thunder each year for the Derby Festival is the First Family of Fireworks. Zambelli Fireworks Internationale first became involved with Thunder Over Louisville in 1991. The annual show is larger than the opening and closing ceremonies of the Atlanta and Barcelona Olympics combined. According to the Zambelli's it is unchallenged as the largest annual pyrotechnic production in North America.

To assemble a show the size of Thunder, Zambelli Internationale utilizes eight tractor trailers filled with nearly 60 tons of fireworks shells. The physical set-up includes 250 tons of launching tubes, some as high as 10 feet with a diameter of 1 and 1/2 feet. Two million pounds of sand will pack the firing tubes on 1,800 feet of barges. Almost 700 miles of wire cable connecting 20 firing boards are tied to the command post for synchronization to the music. This is the largest show the Zambellis perform each year and the Zambellis are the largest fireworks family in the world."

We are going this afternoon, but only because our friend lives downtown and we won't have to use the "thunderpots" (port-a-potties)! There will be 500,000 people coming into downtown and it really is nutso!

And of all the nites for me to leave my window open in my car! ARGH! :eek:Insert smilie raising his right hand and blushing. I, too, have left my sunroof open on one car for a heavy rain storm, and unknowingly rolled down my back window on my other car with the remote clicker for another rain storm. The shop vac helped on one, and I ran the dehumidifier in the other one for a day. Get that water out quickly or else it will mildew.

Now I am scared to check my cars.

The window halfway down is going to have to cut it until I get home...Every other nite for the past year (because yes, I have done it before) I have rolled up all my windows. But not last nite. And it had to be the driver window.
  :( :nono1:  :banging: :whack:  :bang:

I think I deserve all those.

I laid in bed today and listened to the rain and then the birds chirping, they are sooooooooo happy and so is my yard. (A sprinkler system just doesnt do the trick) I know vacationers want the beach but I hope it rains all weekend....

The rain was awesome! It was well needed, and had some nice thunder and lightning in it as well. Rained for about 4 hours here in Blue Mountain Beach, and the power went out for about 2 hours starting at 5:00am or so. My generator kicked in automatically and it was nice to see everything work well..
I said a small prayer of "Thanks" for the rain because we really, really needed it.

PS I wondered too if I had put my top up on the corvette, so much so that I went to check on it a 4:30ish this morning - whew! I was in the clear!

John R, nice photo, but too bad you didn't catch the bolt that struck near your house at about 5 am. On second thought, you might not be here if you did catch that one so it is a good thing you didn't. ;-)

that one actually got me out of bed. the girls were a little nervous due to all the activity, and i wanted to make sure neither had used the thunder and lightning as an excuse to take a pee inside. sadie had climbed into the bed way earlier. i think i went out at around four to close the sliding window in the bus i had left open(for dehumidification, i use haging Damp-rid pouches, works like a champ, dry as a bone) the rain was a welcome cool-r-off-r last night also.

i'd like to make it so the flash doesn't go, and make it a longer exposure time, giving more of the lightning's path.

Apparently there are reports of a small tornado some time in the night in Santa Rosa County near Milton.

Not to be greedy, but I wish the storm hasn't gone through in the middle of the night. I woke up somewhere around 2:30am trying to figure out why/when the AF had started boming in the middle of the night, and it took me a minute to realize it was thunder instead of weapons, and then the storm kept me awake until some time after 4:00am.

Gosh, you can't believe how bad the rain and lightning were early this AM at the beach. We were all scared - me, hubby, and dog.

I haven't seen rain that heavy since the day we moved to Gainesville to start grad school. It rained 13 inches that day! The ground-floor apartment that we had rented at Point West on SW 34th Street had about 1/2 inch of water on the carpet. We decided to move into an apartment above ground level (duh) - thankfully, one was available.

You guys had today what we got woke up by at 4:45 a.m. yesterday morning. Bad thunder, lightning and heavy rain. It continued here a good bit of the day yesterday. Thursday morning around 7:50 it got as black as night all of a sudden outside and the next thing we new there was high wind, hail, and storms.

OTOH means On The Other Hand.
FWIW means For What It's Worth.
IMHO means In My Humble Opinion.
There are a bunch of 'em, but those are the widely used ones.

We did get a nice rain here yesterday, then the skies cleared and we saw the air show at Tyndall. :)

Back in Georgia. We had a great weekend at the beach, despite the inevitable chores. The pool was warm enough that we really didn't have to turn on the heat, although we did - felt great.

Yeah, Audie, I hear ya on the laundry. My laundry room full of stuff to do. Back to reality.

i am convinced that the laundry multiplies on the laundry room floor - either that or a little gnome brings in laundry from other places !
