Hello all. I finally found an information source for my favorite place on earth! Anyway, this board looks to be a great one with lots of info. I'm coming down in mid-June for a week to turn off the cell phone and relax.
What is the water looking like around dune allen?

Sorry you're landlocked. The water is beautiful and it's warming up nicely. What kind of fish are those in your avatar?

Thank you for responding Kurt. They are mainly Amberjack with a couple King thrown in the mix. I think there may be an Almaco in there, too. They were caught out of Orange Beach.
I've been coming down to Dune Allen since I was a kid but haven't been recently so I can't look forward to the visit.
Do you know of any live webcams in the SoWal area so I can see the water?

Nice fish!
Sorry, my webcam got knocked out by Ivan and I have been delinquent in getting a new one set up. But my Nikon is shooting SoWal every day.
Destin and Panama City have some cams but nothing great:

Well the water in Destin and PC looks good so it must look good in between! I was about to ask about the dog flies but I found that info in an old thread. Good site! Sorry to hear about your webcam. Ivan was tough. I was just down in the Orange Beach area this weekend and they're still all ripped up. They've done an amazing amount of work so far but they have a whole lot left to do.
Thanks for the help.

Kathy,
I'm in good ole Montgomery. Where are you?
Kurt-Anyone,
Have you ever tried fishing in Stallworth Lake? I plan on doing some surf fishing and I was wondering if it would be worth it to try the lake. I know there are crab in that lake so maybe some reds???

Another question for you folks.
My wife is worried about our one year old son and alligators. Is there a significant gator population in South Walton?

There are quite a few Florida fans here. But you'll suffer much worse from the elephants, tigers, tigers, semimoles, dawgs, etc.

Just keep the little one away from the bayous.

Other than in Kurts photo, I've never seen one. :idontno: Maybe I should look around more often.

Gators generally don't interact with people much in these parts, though I wouldn't go swimming in the lakes at Topsail Hill SP. (I've heard a lot of gator noise while hiking there) The only places you're likely to actually see one in these parts are Fudpucker's restaurant in Destin or the big Alvin's Island in Panama City Beach. Both have zoo-like gator encolsure areas.

Well we'll be staying in Dune Allen on Stallworth Lake so I hope we'll be okay. If they are in the lake, I hope they have a plentiful food supply other than my leg.

Unfortunately, gators are nearly extinct in SoWal. :(

Don't get me wrong, I like gators and conservation, but I'd prefer not to be eaten alive on my vacation. :laughing1

I reply to your question regarding fishing....you can contact my husband, Gordie @ Angry Fish Charters 850.622.0611 or our gallery in Grayton...
The House of Art 850.231.9997 and ask all the fishing questions you want....If the weather is good...and sometimes not so good...he's out on the water...otherwise he's at the gallery painting....

Kurt,
I notice you are quite the photographer. Do you know where I can find some pictures of Stallworth Lake?

I have some of the park somewhere on file. I'll see if I can find some. There is a page of aerials on the photo index on the main site that has the lake.

Good news! Thanks so much. I spent my childhood summers on that lake and I have no photos of it.

I have a lot of park and lake photos of the area. One of my intended projects it to do online features of each one.
