Bizness Ops in the Area???

Just back from Seacrest/Rosemary and can't wait to get back. :(
In fact we want to settle somewhere along 30A in 2 years when both kids are off at college. so our big question:
What are y'all missing/needing? While several folks told us fast food :eek: we think there are more pleasant necessary small businesses
We want out of the rat race in Atlanta and want to start our own business with a side biz of being the Beach Bums we were meant to be!
What do y'all think??

Hey Bud! A man after my own heart!! Our kids are already out on their own and I keep thinking about going SOWAL full time.

Do what you know!! I wouldn't touch fast food with a ten foot pole. The big brands are steep, and the lesser brands are a huge risk.

If you've got the bucks to capitalize, self storage is a realistic cash flow producer.

I've got a background in management consulting and lobbying, so it's more a matter of deciding how much traveling I want to do if I stay in that arena.

Doing something completely different has a lot of appeal, but I'm staying pretty selective about what to consider.

Maybe we can form a chapter of "workaholics anonymous" and share ideas on how to make the transition.

Business supply store on 30-A..with realistic prices. Redfish tried it but too pricey and normally did not the inventory we needed. We have to drive to Destin or PC for our office supplies. I know most people order from Staples or Office Depot, but we are small business and do not stock a lot of inventory. Just an idea...9-5 kinda job, five days a week!

That's great to know and interesting. We see some potential in that area. We want to support the growth but smartly. We don't want sprawl etc. We have that here!!

I manage a large group in a big media corp. Technical and creative background, video and web. I still enjoy many aspects of running the group but like many others out there-it's working for the man.
Wife works in a giant law firm. She's way ready to get out.

ATL is great but we're looking ahead.

I absolutely agree about the fast foods-i don't think they'll fly in SoWal plus all the other headaches.

I'll help launch the Workaholics Anon if we have our meetings 5pm at Fishbone or Shades...

Full-time beachbum is the best choice for the area. If you feel the need to work, there's plenty of part-time jobs--(i.e., rocket scientist, dog food demonstrator, etc.).

If you must open a business... finding insurance and employees are going to be two biggies!

My advice: Just come down and enjoy what we have left while it's still here and take up that hobby--full time--that you've always dreamed about (watercolor, tap dancing, fishing).

i think you should start a snack boat. you drive up and down the beach in your boat and have food ice cream beer anything frozen. people can swim out and meet you. you can get pretty close to the beach. they wouldn't have to come out that far maybe waist. my cousin used to sell ice cream like that. :floor: its a true story!
