We are planning on coming to Rosemary Beach again in May. We lasted visited in May 2004. I've called a couple of times to ask about the condition of the beaches and I get the feeling I'm not getting the whole story. Does anyone know what the condition of the beach at Rosemary Beach is? Thanks in advance for your input.

The last time I was there (about 2 weeks ago), the beach was absolutely stunning. Wide, clear bluegreen water, no visible peat, lots of sand on top. Most walkovers were rebuilt. No worries, it's wonderful.

On the home page of this site you'll see a selection for photos. I think you'll find some recent pics of Rosemary beach there.

Check this thread. Scroll about halfway down to see photos Kurt took two days ago. I was also down a couple of weeks ago and the beach is looking great right now.

Hope this helps!
The photo below is from a few days ago. They have been trucking in sand and distributing at the base of the dunes. Once that is finished fairly soon they will plant sea oats.

The beaches are beautiful and so is the water. Yes, there might be some erosion at the progression between the beach and ground level. But you won't be hanging out there, so that's only an issue for the beachfront owners, God bless their souls.
Bottom line: This area of the Florida Panhandle is beautiful, and there is no reason to be concerned about the quality of your beach experience. I'm not sure how any messages to the contrary got distributed to those who are not knowledgeable about SoWal. I guess the media likes to portray situations as *bad* to get in a story line on a slow news day. :idontno:

Well said BR. In frequenting this and other travel forums I am amazed at the number of people who think about cancelling or postponing their trips because they have heard that the beaches are "not like they used to be." I am personally undeterred and can't wait to visit in June!

You'll love it. I live next door in Seacrest Beach and the beach up this end is gorgeous. Nice and wide and clean. Much accretion has occurred to the beach and as Kurt said the dunes have also been redone in Rosemary so even they look nice.

Actually, I will be in Seacrest Beach (at the Cottages of Camp Creek.) Looking forward to my first "official" visit to Sowal (having stayed in PCB and Destin previously.)

If you have time, email or call and we'll try to get together. When Paula gets here we're going on a sowal hunt :floor: , we might hunt you down.

I know Paula won't be there at the same time (I contacted her first about renting there but her cottages were booked and she very nicely referred me to one of her neighbors!) There are going to be several other Sowallers down in the area the same week (Jdarg, Peapod1980, Allifunn, Mermaid and Merman) so we'll have to plan a few get-togethers!

Yes, Lindabobhat, I'm jealous that you may meet up with all those SoWallers. But I'm happy because I'll be meeting with several SoWallers myself when I'm there in early May and a few in late June. As I said on the seawall audiovisual thread (which is a thread that got nasty  ), I've been calling our guests during spring break and, among other things, asking them about the beach in our Seacrest Cottages at Camp Creek area and they say it has been beautiful. I'll see for myself in May so feel free to email me to see what's going on. Anyway, In May I'll see Allifunn and Cork on the Ocean as well as a few other people (and Cork and I are planning a Sowaller hunt as she said) as well as a few other people I know who aren't on this board -- isn't SoWal a wonderful place?!? I'm hoping to try some new restaurants that I haven't tried yet, too, including Gravel Road, Seacrest Cafe (I just get Carvel Ice cream there, but this time I'll try lunch), and maybe the new Seaside restaurant that is in the place where Shades used to be (I love the new Shades in the Seacrest/Rosemary Beach area).

Paula, I get the impression that almost any visit to the area affords an opportunity to meet up with others from this board (especially since there are so many locals participating.) I can't wait til June! We haven't been having the stormy weather that so many others have been dealing with, but it still feels like winter here in Chicago (and it's been dismally cloudy.) I can't get to the beach soon enough - so glad to hear the reports from your guests that the beach is in good shape (though I'd be happy with any beach about now!)

I agree -- and every SoWaller I've met so far has been wonderful...

At least the sun was shining today (but it barely made it over 40 degrees.)
