Maybe this is old news, but I was astonished yesterday to see a gigantic mound of brown sand piled up on the beach directly in front of Seagrove Villas ... I actually started off on the beach at Bramble Grove and couldn't believe my eyes when I looked west and saw this mound off in the distance that covered the beach from the embankment to the edge of the Gulf so I went to take a closer look.

What you see is the installation of a type of geotube . They have dug into the peat foundation of the beach which could destabilize the beach and make it more susceptible to erosion.

It is my understanding that the county is allowing these BF owners to use darker sand than other BF owners including the Seagrove Villas.

The good news is that they are suppose to cover up this mess with 3 feet of white sand.

I suggest you go to the threads on "Seawalls" and "Geotubes" for further information.

eco is correct. what you are seeing is excavated dark peat material. it is not trucked in dark sand.

while they are supposed to "cover up this mess" with 3 feet of white sand, the sad truth is that as low as these tubes have been placed on the beach they will likely become exposed over and over again; and it won't even take a cat 2 or 3 storm to do it.

These are the same home owners who trucked in sand below the minimum darkness allowed. The County kindly turned their heads and allowed them to dump the sand. True, they are digging into the peat, but they dumped the dark sand, of which I have posted photos in the past, onto the beach before they dug out for the geotubes.
