The photo gallery is a free online album that you can share with your friends and family. We'd love to see your vacation photos.

Go to the gallery - http://www.sowal.com/bb/gallery, click on the "upload" link at the top, and upload photos one at a time. Your first uploaded photo will create an album under your username.

You'll see a box with code in it which you can copy and paste into any thread to post that pic.

__________________________________________________

Hotlinking photos that are on the internet is preferable to adding as an attachment. The only reason to attach a photo is if it is only on your computer. And even then you should hotlink it after posting it to the SoWal gallery or one of the many other free photo hosting sites on the net like:
http://imageshack.us (http://imageshack.us/) or http://photobucket.com (http://photobucket.com/)

Hotlinking is easy.

First of all - you should make sure you are in full wysiwyg mode for many reasons. Click on "user cp" on the link menu at top, click "edit options", scroll to the bottom and under "Message Editor Interface" select "Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing, then save changes.

After doing so, when you are posting, you will see many editing options - one is "insert image" button - http://sowal.com/bb/images/editor/insertimage.gif - click it and a box comes up where you enter the URL of your image, ie - http://websitename.com/imagename.jpg

So then, when you see an image on the web you want to post, you right click on the image, click properties, click and drag to highlight the name of the image, then right click copy (ctrl C), then right click paste (ctrl V) it into the add image box.

Sounds harder than it is - once you do it a couple of times it is easy. Easier than saving and image to your computer and then uploading as an attachment. One advantage is that it is shown full size instead of as a thumbnail attachment. Just make sure the image is not too wide.

What you end up with to show an image is image tags around a URL:
http://www.imagename.jpg (http://www.imagename.jpg/) - with no space.

Hotlinking photos that are on the interent is preferable to adding as an attachment. The only reason to attach a photo is if it is only on your computer.
Why is this? Is it in order to not eat up memory? Sometimes I'll attach a photo but then delete the file afterwards; is that a bad idea? I appreciate your lessons, Kurt!
One thing I'd like to learn is how to make the hotlink a word or phrase instead of a URL. I see some of you do this a lot, and I have no idea how to do that.

Peapod, hotlinking and hyperlinking (http://www.sowal.com/bb/showpost.php?p=75943&postcount=8) are two different things. hotlinking does indeed save the bandwidth of this board, by utilizing it from another server, like photobucket, etc. in photobucket, when you upload a photo from your HD, it is assigned it's own unique url, and photobucket makes it easy by adding code "Img" to copy and then paste.

hyperlink is basically copying a url to a word. to do so, highlite the desired url and copy via 'ctrl' + 'c' and the open the http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e53/rosenrosen15/createlink.gif
button. enter the text you want to use and hit ok. a new window will open for the copied url, delete the 'http://' and past in the url, using 'ctrl' +'v' and hit ok. eureka, you have just made a hyperlink.

try it.

It is called "The Lone Cypress". If you ever watch golf when they are playning Pebble Beach, this is one of the views they show all the time. It is absolutely breath taking in person, to hear the waves crashing on the rocks below and the sea gulls flying over head. You can also smell the pine, cypress and eucaliptis trees blowing in the breeze. Just beautiful!!

Okay, so for some reason I can't post pictures when I'm on my laptop.

Here's what I'm doing:
If you go to All Albums, then click on NCAA Football Pick 'Em, you'll see that I have an image called 2008 NCAAF v6 Page 1wk8. I click on the image, scroll down, copy the BB code, and paste that into a post. After I submit the post, I can see the image in my post. But my husband and no one else can see it.

But then if I go to my husband's laptop, log on as Beach Runner, do the same exact thing that I described above, log off his laptop, he logs back on as himself, he and everyone else can see the images.

So why is it that doing the exact same thing on my laptop doesn't work? And again I do this signed in as Beach Runner, just on different laptops.

Any help would be appreciated.

I just checked. The album is public. And I had already tried deleting all cookies, temporary Internet files, and history, and then tried to post a picture. Didn't work. Hubby and I are both using the same version of IE, too.
