FYI - Some of you may remember that last year, Walton County hired six additional officers to handle traffic, ie - speeding. They have not been out in full force until yesterday, and the blue lights have been flashing non-stop since then. I guess they are preparing for Spring Break. Take special note on hwy 98 where the speed limits change from 65mph -> 55 -> 45. This is where they have been today (in front of CoCo's / USPS strip mall). They will also be on 30A, so don't say that you had no idea, when you see the blue lights flashing in your rear view mirror. ;-)

Thanks again!

If you are looking for only Sheriff's Uniform Patrol Cars, you may miss the Sheriff Dept's army camoflaged K-5 Chevy Blazer, manned by a Deputy with a radar gun. I saw him yesterday and today parked on the side of Hwy 98, clocking people.

I saw someone pulled over today at Grace thift store.

They were lined up on hwy 98 pulling over speeders and one parks at the park entrance on hwy 395....

That area that changes from 65 to 45 within about a 1/2 mile stretch is rediculous. It probably helps them meet a quota without having to think very hard.

NOW I feel safe. Thanks for the heads-up; coming down tomorrow. The thing is, so many times I have driven on 30A and while in the process of obeying the speed limit, some hotshot is so close on my bumper I can count the hairs on their head. Hope the troops know how to cite for tailgaiting!

Went by that area around 6:30pm tonite going the speed limit and watched an officer of the law pull out behind me. Sure enough, right in front of the Blue Mtn Beach Road (is it 283?) an unsuspecting speeder was pulled over.

Maybe they should have been using SoWal.com :floor:

Thanks SJ - coming down tomorrow and will definitely remember your advice!

Hooray - more power to them. There are too many speeders on 98 & 30-A these days. Beefed-up patrols are a good thing IMO.

So I ventured out for lunch today and I passed four police units (3 cars, 1 motorcycle) with 3 speeders pulled over within a half mile. Two of the cars were pulled over in front of the Seafood Market and the third was in front of Cafe Provence. The motorcycle cop was sitting behind the truck that holds the Cherry Peppers sign in the parking lot. Slow down - they are out!

...and two more at the 98/283 intersection today.

Unplugged, you are correct -- there are way too many speeders trying on the road down here. If you go the speed limit, people will ride your bumper, even if you are in the right-hand lane. I am glad to see the cops busting the excessive speeders. Some of these people I see daily, are going 25+mph over the speed limit -- no wonder they cannot stop from going 75 mph, when the traffic light turns red. These people are dangerous.

Informed sources say that a majority of the citations being issued are for 20+ over the posted speed limit.

That's $205.50.

Y'all be careful...

So I always figure as long as I don't go 5 mph over the speed limit on local roads or 10 mph on interstate highways, I'm cool. Is that true, or are they nailing people for any excess speed? Just curious because we'll be there tomorrow.

Another place to be very careful is around Alys Beach. A poster who shall go unnamed was pulled over there for going a bit over the limit. I think the letter of the law applies on that stretch of 30-A. Not a bad thing either, given the construction.

True.dat. We were rolling through Seagrove at 35 mph (the speed limit) two weeks ago and felt like we were pulling some G's!

Uh...the funns have a funn dad friend that got pulled over right in there and did NOT drive away. He rode away in the back of a cop car. If you catch my drift...That is a tricky one I hear.

I am usually to work by 7:15 - 7:25 every morning so 98 is still pretty asleep. This morning I didn't leave until about 7:50. Let me tell you, I was wishing the cops were out then. People are mad! One guy nearly clipped me twice trying to hurry up and get one car up just to hurry up to slow down at the red lite. I was frazzled on my 5 mile commute.

It is a racetrack out there. I can't believe how many idiots (many look like small housewives) weave in and out of traffic in ginormous SUVs like they are driving sports cars.

And don't get me started on all the pickup trucks with nascar stickers. They drive like the green flag was just dropped at Talledega. :pissed:

BE CAREFULL WHAT YOU WISH FOR!Obviously, either you do not live here, or you are one of the people racing everywhere you go around here. I don't wish for anyone to get a ticket. I wish for people not to drive so fast that they put other drivers at high risk for injury, like my friend Josi, who is now sitting in a wheelchair, thanks to a speeder running a redlight. I see the craziness everyday, Beemn.;-)

Sounds like you've been on I-85 southbound during rush hour headed towards Coweta County. No matter how fast I drive, I have a pickup truck driving up my a$$. Oooooh! Sexy!

On the serious side, thanks for the warnings about SoWal smokies. Today we did see many more of them than in the past.

If everyone would just slow down a wee bit...

FYI - I passed three officers on Mack Bayou yesterday.
