...just past Publix. Anyone have any info on this? Hoping for the best since it happened around the time of school dismissal...

Most terrible news. It was on Channel 7 tonight. Claude Duncan, beloved husband of Betty Cork Duncan, of WaterSound, died in that accident.

Claude was a loving, gentle, brilliant man, and he will be greatly missed. My heart and prayers go out to Betty and their family.

That was the subject of the last email I got from Claude. He was a volunteer at the Big Blue Bash and took photos most of the day. He sent me several in a number of emails and then wrote this:

"My photos largely are what journalists call "color," and short on official proceedings. Before you post you might ask Tom McKee what he has readily available (he's a better photographer than I, anyway). Again, thanks for the opportunity to serve the cause in a small way."

A gifted, self-deprecating, smart man. He will be missed.

Would you mind posting some of his pics, either here or on the BBB thread?

Wow! I saw that car, but it didn't look bad enough to think that someone had died.

He may have died from whatever medical event caused him to crash. A good friend's mom died of a brain aneurysm that occurred while she was driving and caused her to crash her car. Whatever the cause, although I didn't know him, my heart goes out to his family and friends. The world needs more good guys.

Claude is my neighbor at Watersound, I can't tell you how sad this makes me. He was the nicest man. Over the summer when DD had mailed me a package it got lost (Watersound's address system is so messed up) out of the blue I get an email from Claude that said "I'm always here if you ever need me to go over and meet someone or pick something up, just let me know. Or, just have it sent to my house and I will take care of it for you." I don't even know how he heard about it. He was very special and will be missed. :(

SJ, they are thinking he had a heart attack or stroke and ran off the road.

That would make sense because the car went straight, when the road curved back to the west. No skid marks to indicate that the driver tried to brake.

We saw the aftermath of the wreck. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
