View Full Version : Presidential Race -- hogging all of the press

This Presidential race has drawn an overwhelming amount of attention. Nothing wrong with that, but what about the Congress and Senate seats? They get almost zero talk, yet it is Congress which has given so much power to the office of the President. Congress had the power to stop the spending on the war, but they approved the funding right along with their billions of dollars of pork. They tell us they care, but they could care less, as long as they get theirs. There is such a lack of press on candidates for the Senate and Congress, that I couldn't tell you one single person who is running. Where is the balance? Those races will be as important or more than the Presidential race. Without Congress, the President's hands are tied. :idontno:

Hallelujah, Amen and Go, Brother SJ. It is all very confusing to me as well. Does this phenomenon happen because of a lack of education in our schools or do people just forget about the checks and balances? I personally think our Congress gets away with their bad behavior because we let them and it is easier to point fingers at the sitting President for all of our ills. Am I wrong? Set me straight!

The best news I've seen all year - say goodbye to Ted Stevens.

Ahh, Alaska won't continue to get their 200% share of the pork.

Is the press paying more attention to the Presidential race because for many voters, that will determine the Congressional & Senate races when they vote straight ticket? :idontno:
I figure it's a combo of that and the news media being so corporate that they don't do much w/ "local" races.

From a John Fund article weeks ago.
Consider Ronald Reagan, who in 1987 vetoed a highway bill because it had a mere 121 earmarks in it. Reagan quoted a letter that Thomas Jefferson wrote to James Madison in 1796, warning that allowing Congress to spend federal money for local projects would set off "a scene of scramble among the members (for) who can get the most money wasted in their State, and they will always get most who are meanest." Reagan didn't think that represented good government or good politics. Republicans today should heed his warning.

And now who says our "founding fathers" and their writings and thoughts are out of touch with today's modern world?

As I was saying, the Presidential candidates are getting way too much press, while the more important Congressional candidates get nothing.
John R, I love those videos like that. I cannot wait for someone to post the ones of Obama, too. It just shows me that there is too much information available in today's world. No way in hell a single person could keep up with so much stuff. Hey, here's an idea, maybe they should focus on America.

Why don't you get the ball rolling w/ a thread discussing the Congressional candidates?
I certainly don't have a clue.
