I'm sure you've heard about the horrible wreck on the island this am. If not then here is the link. http://www.nwfdailynews.com/news/okaloosa_10161___article.html/injuries_state.html It is so sad and it looks like we lost a local sowal native :( My heart and prayers are with anyone affected by this wreck. I got stuck in this this morning - 2 hours from Destin to FWB - you get upset just sitting there - but once you got to the reason you sat so long - it was sobering. I suddenly realized that being stuck in traffic wasn't so bad. My prayers go out to these people and theirs families. After seeing the vehiclesI am surprised that anyone survived. That pickup truck looked good compared to the car - there was nothing left of it but the rear end.

Yet another reason I'm keeping my Suburban, $4/gallon gas be dam*ed.

You'll still lose while there are semis on the road - I've seen some Suburbans get creamed over the years.

My and my families prayers go out to everyone involved. Almost a year ago, September 14th, I was in a life altering accident. There is nothing you can do to ever take that pain away. It is something you grow from, but also fear you live with. God bless them all.

Being one who has a CDL and who used to be over all of Delta's over the road trucks, I can catagorically say that, for the most part, big rig accidents happen because people in cars drive around them like they are cars and not 80,000lb trucks. That will do it every time. I'm not saying truckers aren't ever to blame, but if you look at statistics, they are better and safer drivers than most who drive cars. The unfortunate side to it all is that regardless of who is at fault the damage that the semis will inflict is massive.

Treat 'em like trucks not like cars!

Treat them like trucks, especially if they're hauling fuel. Those guys are not going to avoid an accident if it means they're going to wind up in the ditch with an explosion.
