The beach IS NOT AN ASHTRAY! Even though it has sand like some of the large pots outside the walmart where you drop your lit cigarettes on the way in, I repeat, the beach IS NOT AN ASHTRAY! Keep your butts off SoWal beaches!

Beer cans and bottle caps should not be left on the beach as a symbol of your beer-consuming prowess.

Peanut shells, although they are organic, are still trash! Do not throw them on the beach (see cigarette instructions above). Same goes for watermelon rinds and other parts of food you won't eat, like chicken bones.

Do not throw trash of any kind outside your moving vehicle, especially lit butts which cause forest fires! Do not throw trash into the back of your pickup truck! It flies out while you are attempting to run bicyclists off the road! Bicyclists have just as much right to the road as you do and they don't leave butts on the beach.

It is truly sad how some folks can be so inconsiderate of the children who must play amongst their lazy arse trash because that is just to far to drag their butt to throw something away properly. :angry::pissed::angry:
My wife and I pick up literally bags full of trash nearly every day. I personally will not pick up anything I call biologic. Cigarette butts, food, diapers or bandaids. It is disgusting that it is there in the first place, but I am not going to expose myself to the disease ridden lazy attitude that suck carcinogens into a filter or gnaw on a watermelon rind and drop or bury it so they wouldn't interrupt the atrofying of their aging muscles. :banging:

Did anyone else pick up that I might just have a bit of a problem with lazy litterbugs? I think I am sensing something here. Is that attitude?

I am ignoring the trash issue and focusing on the giant #%(# holes.

Especially frustrating is that the mo-fos are digging and leaving them within 50' -100' of the clearly marked loggerhead nest!

My beach routine used to be: read for a while, take a walk, pick up a couple pieces of trash on my way back to the house. Now it is: fill in several holes, read for a while, take a walk, fill in more holes, visualize smacking the person standing waist deep in their hole upside the head w/ their giant shovel, go back to the house before I am too tempted and actually do so! :roll:

Beaches looked great again this morning for not having junk out. Now if we can just get those holes filled in before someone makes headlines for falling into one and getting hurt or worse yet, killed.

Please people, bury the hole and let little Jimmy start all over again in the morning. He will be so thrilled that he got to help the turtles and grandma not fall in a hole.

I saw some pampered, tanned, #9 on the scale chic in a new MB 500SL yesterday throw her coke and then a crumpled cigarette pack out of her car at the light at the 'Commons' yesterday. I was so P******* I laid on my horn...she gave me the finger!

She must be one of those high dollar 'REDNECKS' right?

In other words, it's not JUST the rednecks, it's everbody! Smokers (generally speaking) are pretty much inconsiderate folks, using our beautiful beach(es) as an as ashtray is as common as them throwing their butts out of the car window while we are under red flag (fire hazard).

I'm not for more laws, but I feel the LITTERING LAW SHOULD BE ENFORCED and applied to smokers with their nasty cigarettes!

My rant for the day! :)

Ok, I usually don’t say much in these threads, I just read them for my own entertainment. I don’t comment because someone has usually already stated my position and “ditto” just doesn’t seem worthwhile. Not to mention, I don’t think people usually read my responses.

However, things are turning really ugly here. If I am to believe what you guys are saying, collectively in a few threads, I’m a stupid, redneck, inconsiderate tourist that does nothing but drive too fast (slow) in traffic, does (does not) use the multipurpose path correctly (incorrectly), I am rude to the local service industry, trash rental properties for fun, I kill endangered spices, can’t read or understand a flag system, leave holes full of trash, tents and cigarette butts all over the beach and now it’s not just because I’m a tourist, it’s because I’m a smoker too???

You guys don’t have this market cornered. It’s not just people at the beach. Get over yourselves. I see it everywhere. I live adjacent to a state park – its beautiful here. Guess what I have to do. Pick up after people / kids and their dogs. I see trash I pick it up. I don’t *****, moan or complain. But hey, it’s what I do – at the beach, at my state park, at the kid’s school, in a WalMart Parking lot. And I'm a tourist and a smoker!! Go figure.

Should have kept my mouth shut, I’m off my rant now…..sorry.

Don't feel lonely, hon. I'm a smoker(trying very hard for the millionth time to quit) and I pick up the ciggie butts in front of my office that are thrown on the sidewalk by people, who I am sure, believe themselves to be much more well heeled than I. Being discourteous, throwing out trash and endangering others is a by-product of how someone was raised and not according to their geographical location of residence or birth:wave:.

I don't understand how a litterbug thinks. Who do they think picks up after them? Are do they think it just disappears after dark? And the road ways and beaches are clean again at break of day????

Again there are so many problems that it will take years and loads of $$ to fix and this just isn't one of them. If we could get in their minds and reprogram or something.

I really do not like labels of any kind, including redneck. A person who litters is a litterer, nothing more is necessary to describe them.

Obnoxious people come in all shapes, sizes, habits and financial status and even tan level. The bad habits or actions of a few should never be used as a blanket description of others.

Tolerance of people's differences goes a long way in making one's life less stressful.

Here is my opinion...back in the day, sowal.com was a "small" place. One could keep up with what was going on very easily...even if you missed logging on a few days. Now, (and ask Darlene) it has grown so much that it is nearly impossible (even for me!) to keep up!!

So, cp, how did your dental work go? Did you get new teeth? :biggrin:
