Yesterday about 3pm just west of the Inlet Beach access point, a fairly large group of swimmers, fishermen and beach goers were treated to the ominous shadow gliding in from a break in the first sandbar. Much consternation, flapping of momma's arms and shouts insued and the water was cleared. Rumors of shark or ray were heard but then, remarkably, my wife spotted the nose of a 7' long and equally broad (almost) manatee who lingered within 10' of the beach for a bit then slowly headed out to deeper water. We had watched a number of them in Belize several years ago and were familiar with their shape and features so the ID was pretty quick. It seemed to want to hang out at the end of the 1st bar for a hile. Since they feed on turtle grass, etc., I wondered what it had found out there. Maybe seaweed that was collecting at the edge or some sea grass mwe couldn't see from the beach. Finally, it moved on toward the west along that bar. Pretty cool here in Pardise.
Beyond that we've seen a pod of porpoises and several days of guys hooking into Ladyfish close to the shore. Breaks the monotony of just watching the endless tides and waves. The :clap:beach is staying fairly clean this week.
