Well after years of lurking, I've joined. Thanks long overdue for all the posters who have kept my beach dreams alive.
First traveled to sowal when daughters were pre-teens...bringing the daughters back next week, along with their husbands!
We'll be back in Seagrove Beach for my husband's 55th birthday, the whole family present and accounted for...can't think of a better way to celebrate than family time in one of the most beautiful places God has made.
:welcome:I just love it when long time lurkers reveal themselves. Your week sounds wonderful. You probably like your family.

Hello OhMom! You've inspired me to post! We must be kindred spirits and are also neighbors! I live on the other side of I75 in the Maineville area, have 3 daughters, a husband the same age as yours, and we also started visiting the SOWAL area when the girls were preteens. My youngest got married on the beach at Grayton last May. It will aways be one of my most beautiful memories!

That would be awesome! I am SO ready to come down! And caravaning is usually the way we do it! Like a big old band of southern Ohio gypsies on the roll! But we're not going to make it down this this year because daughter Sassy (the beach bride) is due in September, and I'm saving most of my vacation to stay home and spoil the new grandbaby. But next year definately!!

hey sassymob! welcome aboard....we'll do our best to enjoy the beach for your family too. We missed the beach last year because we chose to attend a wedding in NYC. That blew the travel budget but we had great fun with 3 other couples that all traveled together. We did two Broadway shows, the double decker bus tourist fun, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, Central Park ,rode the subway and ended the fun with a wedding ceremony in the Village and a reception in Brooklyn that was right on the water. The New Yorkers who hosted us put the Ohio folks right by the floor to ceiling windows so we could enjoy the NYC skyline as night fell. It wasn't the beach but it was great fun.
I'm amazed and happy that the married daughters and husbands agreed to join us. It's no easy task to get six vacations from work alligned at the same time. We too had a wedding this year...youngest daughter married in June at the university chapel where they met and fell in love. It was a wonderful day filled with family and friends. More memories to come starting on Aug 9th. I'll get some sand between my toes for you and yours!

Ahh,..New York City,....One more place I want to visit, but haven't yet because all of our travel budget usually goes toward SOWAL!! But it's well worth it! I fell in love with the Emerald Coast the first time I laid eyes on the turquoise water and sugar sands as we were coming over the harbor bridge at Destin from FWB one morning 20 some years ago. We eventually migrated to Grayton, where I have always felt right at "home".
You know, come to think of it, I was in New York once in 1965 (66?) for the Worlds Fair,.......so now you know I'm pretty old......

Now s'mob you are not old. My children get old but I don't. Of course I'm about due back to work (teacher) and hanging with 12-14 year olds all day keeps me young and a tad crazy.
My list of places to visit if very long. Now that the daughters are educated and married, I think maybe the budget can be stretched a little more to include more travel. Of course it would have to be in the summer and I'd have to convince the cutie I married that he can take more than 1 week a year off. You know you really love Sowal when you spend your one week of vacation there year after year.

My hubby is more of a stay-at-home vacationer, so 1 trip a year is about all I can get him to do, and so I usually don't want to waste it anywhere else! He also works at a company in town (you may be driving one of their cars) that prefers their employees take vaca during July "shutdown", so that usually always limits us to a July 4th trip. Love the festivities, but not the heat and the crowds. I'll take what I can get though!
