well we are definitely "sweating" today. It was 101 at noon with a heat index of 105, more tomorrow.
Shelters have been set up for the elderly, many of the poor do not have air conditioning and will not open windows due to crime. It is very sad. :(
Our church has been running a shuttle to pick up anyone without a ride to a shelter and a offer to allow them to stay in the church gym and fellowship hall.
Hope we get some of the rain from Dolly, maybe that will help.
don't know the temp here. But its hot as hail! I ran into some rain in town and walked down the sidewalk very slow feeling the hot mist on my skin. ONe mile out of town hot and dry
stay in and stay cool as possible. In this kind of weather its too hot to even cook! But Sat I did manage to put up 7qts of string beans. 6qtsof tomatoes and 12 qts of dill pickles.

It is 91 here right now according to our local weatherbug with a heat index of 101 but is going to be 101 today with a heat index of 110-115. Lows in the mid 70's tonight with a heat index of 104-109. Highs tomorrow they are now showing around 98 with heat index of 103-108 and high around 100 again Monday. Everyone be careful outside during this heat spell. Can be very dangerous. Keep your pets in also. I've seen the effects of a dog left out in the heat at a emergency animal clinic here many years ago. I am sure the dog did not make it probably. The woman was crying. I couldn't possibly see how she could care when she left the dog outside in the heat knowing it was going to be that hot and the dog had no water either. I heard her saying so. Made me so mad!

Sorry ya'll have it so hot up there. We've had some relief as I've gotten rain just about every day this week here in SRB which has brought lots of cloud cover and not so hot days...

I am even afraid to consider our electric bill.
102 predicted here for Tuesday. Actual temps, the heat index is too obscene too mention.

It's like an armpit here. Just about every day my mother feels compelled to remind me, "Lord, but it's sultry..." (Does anyone else have a mama who uses the word "sultry" in reference to the weather?

No, but I am reminded that I LOVE that word. Are you more like your mom or dad?
I don't want to win any competition, especially this one, but I saw in the newspaper forecast the three numbers...107 for Monday. My electric bill may be delivered personally by TXU. Although it is paid by direct deposit from checking, I still ask Mr. K to open and record that one bill. Unfortunately, last month he forgot and made a comment about how high it was. I have turned up the thermostat and called the radiant barrier guy for a new quote.

Hell, I AM a mama who uses that word. I love it too. I use it to describe some people also. A certain Italian wench comes to mind.

Does anyone else use "muggy?" That was our word in New Orleans for 90+ degrees plus 90+ humidity. I like "sultry" better.

Being from Houston, yes, this was an often used word. It's the walking out of the house with glasses on and all of a sudden you cannot see that makes me think...muggy.
Toots is so sultry she makes my knees weak. ;-)

Muggy is what it is here and I know Texas is getting it too. My brother went to college at TCU and got married the summer after and the day of the wedding it was 103. I thought we would all faint before the ceremony was over. Everyone in the wedding photos is sweating, yuck.
IBD thanks for the offer but I am sure LA is getting it too. I am really looking seriously to a trip to the Mountains.
This cabin really appeals to me.

If you consider getting a new a/c unit you might want to get a geothermal unit. Once it gets hot enough the a/c isn't going to be doing anything.
I'll be reporting live from the surface of the sun (Las Vegas) in a week.

I think I will have someone come dig me a basement under my house and see if they can get to China. Why LV?

Minnie, I would say come and visit but it ain't much better her in South LA, NO breeze like SOWAL...
I know all about the South LA humidity. The one time we vacationed in Lafayette, LA, it was so humid, you could walk outside at 8:00 a.m. in the morning and your arms were instantly covered with a wet film. Our humidity here feels totally different than that. But I loved the 10 days we spent down there and want to go back again.
It is going to be 99 here today with a heat index of 106. And the heat indexes have been in the 105-115 range here for many days straight. It has been so hot, the wasps are drinking water out of my birdbath.

It's been in the mid to upper nineties in Memphis for the month of July and into August with several days at 100 and that ain't w/the humidity index figured in so this ain't that hot just "sultry" altho with that sea breeze lately, it is tolerable.

Hey InletBchOwnr, at least we are getting a reprieve of hot temps for the next week. It is very dark now as we speak and is going to storm it looks like. Here is the current 7 day temps and the current radar as to what is headed our way.
It is around Tipton, Lauderdale, and Dyer county now and is moving Southeast towards Memphis. I live just south of Tipton County in the northern part of the county. It looks dark towards my house.

I am oh so ready for fall temps. This has given me a quick taste of it. I think we are going to be back to 85 tomorrow though. But anything will work as long as it is not near 100. I wish I could have sent the 76 degrees your way.
Minnie
08-11-2008, 12:05 PM
The weather is absolutely fabulous as LadyD said. High today only 85 and right now its only 76, so we might not even make 85 and tonight, 69, wow, I can open windows.
Miss Kitty I wish we could push it over your way, but this morning they said the cold front was going to swoop down into Arkansas and Tennessee but miss you, sorry.
I do think it was going to stay below 100 for you though, which is some improvement.

We are experiencing the same weather as you folks in Memphis. Yesterday, we had to work to get to 80. It's been awesome......however, I fear we will pay for this "gift" with either 100º in September, or snow in December!
