Well it seems you don't have to be in non-compliance with state audit requirements (by the way that was the problem, not that anyone wanted to deny the citizens a new 911 system), get embarrassed after not attending a hearing you called, visit the Governor's office for tounge lashing and spend thousands of taxpayer funds on lawyers and a new accounting firm to get a new 911 system.

Apparently if you practice leadership in communicating with fellow government agencies and have the administrative skills to complete a grant application, you can get it FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who would have thought it.

Chief Mike Adkinson did it for DeFuniak Springs... see link to WJHG article.

This method would have also prevented current Sheriff RJ from having to take out a full page ad in the DeFuniak Herald to attemp a SPIN on the truth. RJ would have us think that the BCC, conspired to prevent the citizens from having emergency management equipment, thus endangering the lives of everyone in Walton County...NOT True!

He also make it sound like he fought the "powers that be", all the way to the Governor's Office on our behalf...Not True.

What happened is this...He chose to unilaterally purchase a 911 system, as usual failing to communicate with County Officials, asking for grant assistace or otherwise seeking another method to fund it. He chose to fund it from the enormous budget surplus that he has from the 15 million he gets.

Everyone else would have planned for the purchase and requested it the previous year as a Capital Expense Item, which is actually the requirement.

The problem occured when the fiscal year ended, he had not expended the funds. Poor planning and coordination by RJ, resulted in the equipment not being fully installed, prior to year end.

The remaining aftermath was his effort to save his own hide, and reputation.

He talks of a new auditor being assigned to him. The current contract auditor has been in under contract for over 6 years, and is a highly respected individual.

So now RJ is sending our money to Okaloosa county to hire a full time CPA firm, because he did not have enough common sense to hire a qualified governmental accounting professional from the beginning.

There will be more to come, but it will require additional threads.

:bang:Frustrated and Ready for a Change "I Like Mike!"

Not only did RJ update his 911 system with Motorola....he seems to forget that deputies can only communicate by radio while in their patrol cars. Their hand held Motorola's do not work in S. Walton in most places. They are useless, not to mention dangerous for the deputies and the community. I'd like to know what he updated, and why patrol handheld radios do not work in S. Walton!
