I think I misspoke on another thread and called it Tropical Storm Gamma, but it is still a Tropical Depression at this time. Only 15 more days for the regular Hurricane Season. I hope they dont extend the season due to extreme circumstances.

Apparently if the storms keep coming, they keep naming 'em. I saw last night that there were a couple of named December storms in the last decade or so.

There is a HIGH RISK for severe thunderstorms today from the Great Lakes down to the Gulf Coast. The SPC is calling this a particularly dangerous situation in which some areas could see long lived damaging tornadoes through this evening--F4s and F5s maybe?

I think Hurricane Gamma jumped up to KY- our weather is out of control today. A huge stormy front is coming through later (tornadoes- how fun for November!), but the winds are already so strong that one trellis has blown down and another is hanging on by a thread. The good news is that most of the leaves have been blown off the trees and into the neighbors yards! :floor:
So being the weather freako that I am, I will be glued to weather.com the rest of the day. :bang:

I am a weather freako too! check out my photos in the member's section. I like to use weather.gov over weather.com. Weather.gov displays all of the warnings, watches and advisories for all of the contiguous States. Also, www.spc.noaa.gov is the site to the Storm Prediction Center, which displays all of the current watch data and also mesoscale discussion data--information about where new tornado or severe thunderstorm watches will go out before they are broadcast to the general public.

Freaky to be in Kentucky today. High of 78* and tomorrow's high if 44* !
The wind almost knocked me over a few minutes ago when I went to pick up lunch. The radio keeps saying we need to be watching for winds up to 60 mph with the possibility of a tornado outbreak.
And here I sit in my office seeing client after client discussing Bipolar issues and the neighbor is threatening to sue over the dog situation.
I wish I were at the beach!! :(

I think you need to go into meteorology, not law.
Unless there is meteorlogical law!

Batten down the hatches, Sunny Daze! Storms on the way!
We have had more bad weather in the past 2 weeks than we had spring and summer combined.
I'm rounding up the go-to-the-basement supplies:
Flashlights
Candles
Matches
Radio
Halloween candy
Dog/cats/birds
Shoes (I have this fear of being shoeless after a tornado)
sodas
snacks
Wine
Ashtray - oh dang! I don't smoke anymore! I definitely miss smoking during tornado warnings!
It's gonna be a long night- the weather dude just said we will be messing with this for about the next 6 hours. It's been nice knowing y'all!

I was actually a meteorolgy major when I first started college--but realized I am not so hot when it comes to Calculus 3 and multivariate calculus. Political science was my other major at the time, so I dropped atmospheric sciences and added history as the other double major along with Poli sci.

SPECIAL TROPICAL DISTURBANCE STATEMENT
NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL
900 AM EST FRI NOV 18 2005
SATELLITE IMAGERY INDICATES THAT SHOWER ACTIVITY ASSOCIATED WITH THE
REMAINS OF TROPICAL DEPRESSION TWENTY-SEVEN HAS BECOME BETTER
ORGANIZED NEAR THE NORTHERN COAST OF HONDURAS. IF CURRENT TRENDS
CONTINUE...A TROPICAL DEPRESSION OR TROPICAL STORM COULD FORM LATER
TODAY. IF ADVISORIES ARE RE-INITIATED...WATCHES AND WARNINGS MAY
BE REQUIRED FOR PORTIONS OF THE NORTHWESTERN CARIBBEAN COAST AND
THE ADJACENT ISLANDS...AND INTERESTS IN THIS AREA SHOULD MONITOR
THE PROGRESS OF THIS SYSTEM.
EVEN IF NO ADDITIONAL DEVELOPMENT OCCURS...HEAVY RAINS WILL BE
POSSIBLE ACROSS PORTIONS OF HONDURAS...BELIZE...THE CAYMAN
ISLANDS...WESTERN CUBA...AND THE YUCATAN PENINSULA OF MEXICO.
THESE RAINS COULD CAUSE LIFE-THREATENING FLASH FLOODS AND
MUDSLIDES.
AN AIR FORCE RESERVE HURRICANE HUNTER AIRCRAFT IS SCHEDULED TO
INVESTIGATE THE SYSTEM THIS AFTERNOON.

Let's hope it does not gain speed.

I am hearing it too, BR. The scariest were Joe Bastardi's predictions--possible cat 3, then a morph into a superstorm type feature when it is infiltrated with cold air from the north, then takes a swift ride up the east coast of the U.S. along the jet stream, after a landfall somewhere between Naples and the Big Bend area.
However, looks to me like the cooler temps in the Gulf and extremely dry air will be on our side.

Could this be the PERFECT STORM type scenario for the east coast? This is just absurd to be still watching the tropics at this time of year!!!!
